The best program in the Universe just got better.
I know, I know....

Seriously, you have seen me evangelize for IrfanView for years. This tiny (1.28 mb)image editor is so jam packed with features that I can't even start to list them here.

With the new version 4.23, Irfan has added a feature that could be invaluable to DUers who have trouble resizing an image to meet the file size requirements of DU; Save for the Web, with an option to compress the image to a predetermined size in Kb.

Lots more new features in this new version, such as Create multi-page pdf, add space to panorama images etc.

1. I just downloaded the this version of Irfanview and I am impressed with the
new paint features. What I like most is the Straight/Rotate tool where you click & drag a line along something that is suppose to be either a vertical or horizontal and release and it will square the picture with that line. No more un-level camera shots!

2. I forgot to mention that
A very useful tool indeed. I've just finished photographing a stack of artworks for a exhibition catalogue and that would have been very handy indeed.

3. What's the price?
I bought my daughter a mini (and limited, no cd or dvd drive) laptop for Christmas - so she could myspace, IM, and upload pics on the run. She already has a nice desktop, less than a year old, with every program imaginable, but being a teen, well, the mini notebook made sense. (and the price was right.) She loves it, actually cried when she opened it Christmas morning, but would like a decent photo editing program, something down loadable. (She has Photoshop on the desktop so is used to working with a good program.) I really don't want to spend any more money, if possible. I know there are some great free programs out there, I just haven't had the need to look into them. This one sounds like it might be the answer, if the price is right.

6. Free is perfect!
I've told her about it. She's excited and looking at it right now (along with the ones linked below). Thanks so much.
