I Use The FREE AVG Anti-Virus Program, But Every Few Days It Says
it's not updated. I have to update all the time, but I think it's messing up my PC. Even though I've set my PC for Windows updates, I tried to see if I was getting all of them it wouldn't work for me.

I'm using Comcast and they have this new thing called smart zone and I have to sign in EVERY SINGLE time I log on... I HATE it, but that's how it is. I'm going to switch to Verizon soon, but not until after the election.

Anyone know what to do about AVG. I am going to remove it right now but am wondering if there is a better one to use. AVG used to be very good but they offer less options than before, like automatic updates. You can pay for a version that has automatic updates, but if there is a better free one I would like to know.

Thanks

1. I use this one
Avast Home Edition http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
It is free but required registration.

4. Okay, I Was Really Asking For Something Other Than AVG That Was
acceptable and used by others. I checked with Explorer and they gave me options of different programs, but I didn't know which one to use. If anyone else has more input or feels there is a better anti-virus, please provide some input.

Thank you.

2. AVG updates itself da\ily
That is not the same as Windows update. The free version of AVG updates daily. As far as Smartzone goes, there are better ways to get your mail, etc. You don't have to use it.

3. Yes, I Know It's Not The Same As Windows AND My AVG Used To Update As Needed
but somehow it stopped. I always thought it was a GREAT anti-virus until lately! I removed it and downloaded it twice now and still am having problems. I couldn't even open links from my Outlook Express. When I removed it, I was able to open the links. I was sending the links to Yahoo to open them. I did notice when I removed AVG that they asked me if I wanted the "vault" cleared and old files. I didn't say yes because I wasn't sure. I actually bought an edition of AVG, but the people I use to fix my computer said NOT to pay for any anti-virus and they liked AVG! I'm wondering if I should have said yes about removing remnants!

I just removed it a little while ago and am able to open all attachments and my PC is running much faster. I can't figure this out.

BTW, I HATE Smartzone, I completely dislike what Comcast has done. I will be changing to Verizon Bundle after the election, just didn't want to miss anything before November 4. Smartzone is weird and I use Outlook Express. I don't have money to pay for much of anything, and right now don't have extra time to switch to something other than Explorer.

Thank you for your input.

6. It seems to hit snags lately updating. Mine does the same.
I just keep trying, manually, and it usually goes through. Maybe just busy servers?

5. Another excellent free AV - AntiVir by Avira
Been using it for years. http://www.free-av.com/

Why not just get a gmail account and configure it to work with Outlook Express? It has a great Spam catcher!

:)
