I have a
Linux Mint box (Debian-based distribution) and a Vista machine at work. While I can do an "ifcong -a" from a terminal window (like an "ipconfig /all" in Windows) and see my IP address; and I can ping that IP from my Vista box (and vice-versa), I have no other network access from the Linux machine. Entering "google.com" or its IP - 64.233.167.99, just gets a timeout in Firefox.
The network connection settings are identical on both machines, which connect through a hub to the LAN. I have even run other distros from live-CD with no luck. That I can get an IP tells me the network card is functional and is seen by the DHCP server. I have even changed the hardware "MAC address" of the network card (MAC 'spoofing') and still nothing.
This one has be baffled. Running out of options, unless someone has more ideas to try?
