Weird problem I've had before...DU freezes up..help!
I have Windows XP, and I am presently on Dial-up. (I'm about to go to DSL) DU loads ok, but when I try to scroll down, it freezes up. I have to do a ctrl-alt-delete, and then have to re-start to get it unfrozen. Also, Buzzflash, my other favorite website, doesn't even load. I'm not computer savvy, so I had to call a Geek last time.

I have NOD32 virus program. I ran a scan and it displayed:

File cannot be opened. It may be in use by another application or operating system.

C:/hiberfil sys-error opening file locked (4)
C:/pagefil.sys-error opening file locked (4)

I think what may have caused this is I use the back and forward buttons a lot on DU and Buzzflash. I would imagine I wouldn't have this problem with high-speed internet, right?

Is there anyway I can fix this without calling a Geek? I'm posting on my work computer, because I cannot live without DU.

1. Have you checked for spyware?
the page and hibernation file are probably open by default, I would guess. The page file is used by windows when windows is running. The hibernation file is used to store the active memory when the PC is left for long enough that the power settings kick in. I wuldn't worry so much about them.

Are you using IE, or Firefox? if you have both, does it happen with each?

Here are my recommendations, ordered in the easiest to do from someone on dial up:

1> see my post on this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=242x19416#19420

2> Download Adaware (free version), (update the definition file when you start it) -- this could takje some time over dialup

3> Download firefox and see if the problem follows. (I like it better than IE)

2. Just for clarity...
I know my post speaks of ad blocking, but this helps with spyware stuff too in many cases.
