What's the best software program to copy large avi files to DVD?
Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 03:30 PM by The Backlash Cometh
I use to have a drag and drop version of Roxio that worked okay, but I accidentally deleted it. I then went to Roxio and purchased two different Roxio programs, thinking they were upgrades, but both are inadequate. It is possible that what I'm trying to do is incorrect to begin with. I have a large number of avi files that I'm individually copying to DVD. AFterwards, I make the DVD "compatible." It worked once, but now the computer just won't handle it. Everything freezes after a while and I'm out a DVD since it can only be recorded to once. By the way, I'm doing this for easy archive purposes. I want to be able to come in and slip in the disk and pick a file to view immediately, if necessary.

Any suggestions?

1. If you're putting a single avi on each dvd, simply convert it
to dvd video format then burn it.

A good program I've come across and experimented with is Allok Video to DVD Burner at http://www.alloksoft.com/video_to_dvd_burner.htm It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to convert it, then when you burn it you have a video dvd that is accepted by any dvd player.

As you said, use it for archival backup purposes only...

2. I've got that one figured out. I have movie software that works great
What I'm trying to do now is get all the raw clips and archive them, individually. I'm trying to put 50 of those individual clips on a DVD. Is that an improper way to use a DVD?

3. Your blank dvd is about a penny's worth of plastic
As long as you've paid for it, it's yours to do anything you want with. "Improper" is NOT a word I would associate with anything you're talking of doing. "Nobody's fucking business but yours" is closer to the proper term IMO.

4. Maybe I'm using the wrong word. I assume, if I can't do it without

freezing my computer, that it means either A) I cannot do it at all, or B) I'm using the wrong software. Roxio can't help me.

5. Ahhh. The light breaks through the clouds.
Switch to Nero Burning Rom and see if that'll help. I've used it since version 6 (it's now at v8.x) and it's superior in every way to Roxio.
