I ordered my dishwasher today!
I decided on the Bosch. It's a new model that became available this month. I'm getting it in black to fit in with my tongue in groove cedar walls.

Sears gave it to me for $100 off to match the sale price of this past year's outgoing model. Then I got a Sears card and got an additional $110. off the price. They'll install and need to tap into electrical and plumbing since this is a fresh install.

It came down to the Kenmore made by Bosch and this one. Both very quiet. But the Bosch has a lot of flexibility for odd shaped stuff and the notch in the upper rack so I can put large platters in the rack below. It just came down to the flexibility for loading it up. The Kenmore's are also great machines. I did learn that you absolutely have to use Jet Dry with a Bosch because of the way it dries.

I'd been comparing dishwashers and fridge's for months. Yunno, after a while you just have to make a decision. Consumer Reports helped a lot. :D

2. Wow ... great deal!
Bosch was on my shortlist, although I opted for the Kitchenaid. One thing that Bosch had over everyone else was the final rinse temperature. NSF requires a 180°F final rinse for commercial machines. Bosch, as I recall, had 176°F. Not sure what yours is, but it shows a 161°F wash cycle, so it probably has the higher temp rinse. I also see yours is NSF certified. That's an excellent feature.

Most other manufacturers' final rinse is in the 150°F plus range. While hot enough for home use, to be sure, 180°F is absolutely deadly to all bugs. The Bosch is so close it counts!

The plumbing should be no big deal. They take the water from your sink's feed and the drain goes into the sink drain or your garboon (disposer :) ). Electrical can be a bit more problematic and may require a new circuit.

4. Thanks! I hope we don't need a new circuit
I told the sales guy that the electrical line is a newer one that only serves the disposal. He said it was okay. Perhaps it will be okay but you never know.

We have cinderblock interior walls in this bunker. So, it's always a thrill to make changes. If I have to choose, the disposal will go bye-bye so the dishwasher can have that line for itself. I rarely use the disposal and can wait till we make more changes to get it hooked up again.

Thanks for the forewarning, Husb. I'd rather be prepared than deal with new info at the last minute. This decision was a snap!

5. Coupla 'lectrical thoughts ......
First, they may well coexist happily ..... the dish washer and the garboon.

A 15 A circuit can handle 80% .... or about 12 A. That maaaaaaay be just about what you'll need.

If you're really lucky the wiring is heavy enough that you could put a 20 A breaker on it. That will, absolutely, handle it. Have them check this first if they tell ya that ya need a new circuit.

Another option if you're close but just a tad over, is to replace the garboon with a smaller one. I assume you've probably got a 3/4 or 1 HP unit. See if a 1/2 HP will overload things or allow you to have both. Particularly with no kids to throw all sorts of stuff in it, and saying you use the garboon very little, this may be the best solution.

Also, draining the dishwasher is easiest when you connect it to your garboon. That gives the required 'air gap' for the drain. Otherwise you have to add an air gap fixture to the drain line (just a few bucks, but a pain in the ass to have one).

6. I think we might have a 1/2 hp now
It's a smallish one. We need a new one and I'll get the 1/2 h/power no matter what. It'll be easier having it drain into that. When I get new cabinets, it'll be easier to unhook the dishwasher. Thanks!
