I know it's late for most of you but What's for dinner?
I just need to think about something pleasant for a few minutes.

I'm having kids over for dinner tonight so I'm making:

Home made Chicken Strips with Barilla Puttanesca Sauce for Dipping (and I don't give a poop if any of them hate olives-they have to learn sometime)

Angel Hair Pasta with Parm and Butter

Ceasar Salad with extra Croutons.

Watermelon for dessert.

1. We had barbequed pizza.
Cooked outside on the gas grill. DH did it, since I'm still not walking much. (Bed to bath, bath to couch, couch to bath, bath to couch....)

Frozen pizza base (Schwan's 4 cheese rising crust) with lots of goop added and extra cheese. Whole tomatoes from the garden and baby cucumbers.

I got cabin fevery yesterday and went outside (ooo... crutches and stairs, bad combo...) to look at my plants. Made it safe and sound, did a full lap. Plants are fine, probably doing better without my intervention.

I'm making some sauteed chicken with balsamic shallot sauce, couscous and some squash sauteed with garlic curls.

3. Veal Milanese .............
with fettucine with capers and black olives and artichoke hearts and cherry tomatoes and lemon.

Watermelon for dessert, and there's some dark chocolate (Valrhona) somewhere around here, I believe .................

5. Ha were you inspired by the flame war today?
I was going to do Chicken Piccata but thought the kids would sneer. Your fettucine sounds delish. Did you use marinated artichoke hearts, or the ones packed in water?

Rats. I miss all the fun stuff, I guess.

You know, you can use either, but for this dish, I especially like the plain ones, since they don't argue with the subtle flavors of the tomatoes and olives and olive oil.

Kids sneer, but they eat. Our kids always had the PBJ option, but, more often than not, they were curious about what The Big People were having. They ended up as quite the little food freaks.....:)

9. My daughters favorite food as a toddler
Clams! She couldn't get enough of them.

To this day she loves octopus and all kinds of sea creatures.

Now if I could just get her to eat tomatoes, mushrooms and eggs....

14. I loved them as a kid, too.
Our kids screamed at them.

Isn't she interesting? A seafood eater who eschews "normal" food. I have a son who still won't eat tomatoes. Go figure.

On the other hand, I came home one day to find the three kids, in their bathing suits (it was winter), all together in a bubble bath (the oldest was 9), having rolled a TV set into their bathroom, watching cartoons and eating plain homemade yogurt. That's one that will never leave me.

4. We had
Cubed pork loin and sliced mushrooms, sweet bell peppers, Vidalia onion and zucchini marinated in a balsamic marinade. I strung everything on skewers and grilled them then served it all on a bed of rice. Yummy.

Oh, and we had fresh fruit salad made with honeydew, canteloupe, blueberries and strawberries for dessert.

6. Chef's Salad
3 Kinds of lettuce, some grated carrot and zucchini, green onion, red onion, cucumber, grated cheese, some ham, raisins, sunflower seeds and croutons. Yum.

And for dessert.... pots de creme au chocolat with a dollop of whipped cream!

7. Mmmmmm....
Nice dinner. And it was good to read what others fixed tonight. We had leftovers. I think that what I really had was a big bowl of cherries followed by a cheeze-curls snack. Hubby reheated last night fettuccine for himself. It's time to seriously clear out the fridge.

I needed to come here to decompress.

12. Friday take out at our house too.........
We're gonna do Chinese.

Nothing fancy: Wonton Soup, The General, Mongolian Beef and some Egg Rolls. Our local "good" Chinese joint is pretty basic.

Normally we go out for Chinese as we have a number of really fine places close enough to eat out at but too far for take out.

I'm not in the mood to go out tonight.
