I'm being nice. Here's my Thanksgiving menu.
Going to prep this tonight and tomorrow night, along with some last minute housecleaning.

I wanted to get some stuff done last night, but came home to find out some vehicle had taken out my mailbox, so 2 hours later after the trip to the hardware to buy a new one, install, etc., I ran out of time.

This is what I'm making for Thursday:

Roast turkey with a vegetable/fruit infused gravy

Dressing made with a mixture of Italian and egg bread, seasoned with sage, celery, onion, butter, etc.

Mashed potatoes made with real butter and real cream and white pepper

Roasted cut sweet potatoes with sea salt and herbs

Homemade potato rolls in both white and wheat, with a touch of honey in the dough

Candied Brussels Sprouts with black walnuts

Sweet Corn with butter

Cranberries from scratch with orange juice and orange zest

A seasonal salad with mixed greens, apple slices, toasted filberts, white cheddar cheese, croutons, and rasberry dressing also from scratch

Relish tray with various homemade pickles including cauliflower, zucchini sweet pickles, dill spears, pickled beets plus some olives (ok, we have California and Spain to thank for the olives)

"Pumpkin" (actually, Black Futsu and Dickinson Select squashes straight from my garden) pie with real whipped cream

Apple Pie from my own apples -- I'll probably use a mix of Arkansas Black and Jonadels

Jello mold with mixed fresh fruit and English walnuts

If I'm bored, I might whip up a nut-crusted cheese ball and set that out with some various crackers. Wouldn't want anyone to go hungry!

4. Thanks. That should work for the five of us, right?
Seriously, my rule is, I cook this Thursday, and no more significant cooking until Monday. I might "repurpose" some of the leftovers, such as making a casserole or Shepherd's pie type dish from leftover turkey, gravy, and mashed potatoes, or grind up some of the leftover turkey and some pickles and make turkey salad, but that's it.

7. All five of you are lucky to be at your table!
Repurposing is ideal. You'll eat divinely for days. I'm jealous!

11. LOL. You've made me feel better about the HUGE amount of groceries I bought
today for just two of us. Cook Thursday, eat leftovers for a week, is my rule! :)

3. What time is dinner?
:hi:

Seriously, that's quite a menu - hope it all goes wonderfully!

(interesting sounding squashes - and I've not had Jonadel apples. Right now we are getting some good York Mountaineers)

5. Jonadel is a cross between Jonathan and Delicious.
It has a somewhat yellowish flesh, reddish/green to red skin, and is basically sweet. It also holds its shape pretty well in pies, being a bit on the firm side.

I've not heard of the York apple -- I just googled it. Sounds like an interesting heirloom type.

Thanks. See you at about 2:00.

6. There is a great place in Michigan - Tree Mendus - that sells many types of heirloom apples.
We purchase from them each year - I am into heirloom apples nearly as much as heirloom tomatoes. They have a website. Prices are reasonable.

I like Jonagold (Jonathon X Golden Del) and Jonamac...and we just finished up a bag of just plain ol Jonathons (trader joe). I really like Ark Blacks as well.

8. Would you mind sharing a recipe?
Your 'Candied Brussels Sprouts with black walnuts' sounds ethereal.

Can you please post your recipe (or the link where you found it!) for this?

9. what the OP didn't say is that he hulled those black walnuts himself...
....cracked them and picked them! And it's more of a chore than we even imagined when you have a whole crop to deal with.

I can't even find any black walnuts to buy. Sad.

10. Remind me next year...
We have an ENORMOUS black walnut tree in our side yard. Haven't been up to the challenge of saving any yet, but would be happy to mail you some when they drop next year. (I'm assuming this year's have been on the ground too long.) :)

13. Black walnuts are a chore. If it wasn't for the wonderful taste, they wouldn't
be worth the effort. The only nut I've ever found that is harder to pick out is a hickory nut, but they don't require all of the work of getting the hull off like the walnuts.
