My husband made this simple brussels sprouts recipe last night...
It's from Martha Stewart.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bS5QePbCp_I

* Brussels sprouts (20 ounces)
* Lemon, Zest of (1/2)
* Shallots, small (2)

* Olive oil (2 tablespoons)
* Pepper, freshly ground (1 Pinch)
* Salt, coarse (1 teaspoon)

* Lemon juice, freshly squeezed (2 tablespoons)
* Water (1/2 cup)

He didn't use the shallots but used onions instead and it was good.

So simple and yet very tasty!

3. sounds good.....here's our standby recipe (we are addicted to) for the lowly Sprouts...
We use about 10 Brussels Sprouts per person - at this time of year, we sometimes find the whole stalk of sprouts, nice and fresh, for about 3-4 dollars (Trader Joe often has them).

Anyway - cut the end off the sprout and remove any blemished leaves. Cut in half.

Bring a pot of water to boil - put in the Sprouts, set the timer for 5 minutes. Drain in a colander and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking.

Return the pot to the stove - set to medium, add 2 tbsp butter (yes, real butter!) - once it melts, add 3-4 tbsp sliced almonds. Add 1 tsp salt and a few grinds of black pepper - stir the almonds in the butter until the brown (the butter will brown a bit to golden - that's fine). Put in the rinsed, blanched Sprouts - stir well, saute over medium heat for 7-10 minutes until they brown a bit and are al dente in texture.

this brings out the sweetness in the sprouts - and the nut/butter flavor is perfect.

5. Sounds great...after halving and cookingi, i often add a dressing of a couple squeezes of lemon
juice, several sprinkles of Butter Buds or some other similar
butter equivalent, and a couple squirts of honey. Sounds weird,
but we love them......z
