3. Josh Viertel, Slow Food USA President

4. Will Allen, Urban Farmer

5. Jack Sinclair, Walmart Head of Grocery

1. I think its redundant to name 'powerful foodies'
Because every single person on earth needs food. Once you get into the realms of 'foodie' and more importantly, link that term to power, you are really suffering a disconnect from the reality of day-to-day existence.

I doubt whether Michelle Obama would wish to be considered a foodie for her work in bringing better nutrition to children. The term foodie is one that I would only slap onto a person with a self-inflated sense of their own importance and influence in the FOOD world, which is just about everthing, every day for every person.

2. We argued this on another board years ago...
I almost posed here to see how people felt about the term "foodie."

It varies widely! :D

3. This one is a joke, right?
Jack Sinclair, Walmart Head of Grocery

Corporate food vendor, yes. Perhaps a foodie in his own life. But you'd never know it by his workplace.

4. Was thinking the same
head of grocery for Malwart? Really?

It's not like WM is all about healthy food.

5. Interesting, but

It does seem to bring up the question of "what's a 'Foodie'", though. It's sort of one of those nebulous terms that has means different things to different people, as "food" is an awfully broad topic encompassing many aspects. And some of those aspects are contrary to other aspects.

I don't know anything about 4 of the 7 members other than their names and job titles. Nor do I know what criteria Michael Pollan used to compose his list. What caused this one to be included and someone else excluded?

So for me, I guess it all adds up to one big  don't know

6. Yes, if the list mentioned why he thought they were the most significant

I'd give it more credibility. Why, for example, is this particular "urban farmer" singled out instead of one of the many others?
