Red Velvet.... Onion Rings?????
http://www.thefoodinmybeard.com/2011/04/red-velvet-battered-onion-rings.html

Is Red Velvet the new Bacon in terms of over-exposure and over-use??

As one commenter on the blog said, they might be good for Halloween.

1. Ugh... I don't know, they don't look very good to me
And Red Velvet fried chichken/chicken tenders don't sound so appealing either

But then, I don't really understand the appeal of red velvet cake, either - all that red food coloring just doesn't seem like a great idea to me.

2. Glad to know I'm not the only one.
To me, red velvet is just an overly-moist, plain tasting, blood-colored mess. Yuck.

3. I don't get the love of the red velvet

Isn't it just a light cocoa cake colored with red food coloring? Cream cheese frosting is always good....Why not blue velvet cake...Or Green velvet....

Or better yet if you must have some god awful colored cake make a Jello poke rainbow cake and call it a day!

4. I have nightmares about that Jello cake.
A lady in an office where I used to work baked and brought them in ALL THE TIME. She was very sensitive and easily offended. My job depended on being able to depend on her, so I had to eat slice after nauseating slice of that VILE cake. :puke:

5. I don't get it, either.
Its just a chocolate cake that someone forgot to put enough chocolate into to make it taste like chocolate. And yes, it could be ANY color

7. This is a trend that must be nipped in the bud...Red Velvet Fried Chicken now
http://www.geekosystem.com/red-velvet-fried-chicken/

Must be a riff off of the chicken and waffles thing....or just some stones out idgits out to make a name for themselves.

Sounds awful to me. Now maybe if they mix some cream cheese with jalapeños and stuff it in a chicken wing then dunk it I may think of trying it

8. Agreed.
Red dye, blue dye, green dye, whatever. Food shouldn't be dyed. EVER.

10. I don't want to think about this one, at all.
Nor do I want to hear about red velvet cake used as anything but cake at tacky suburban birthday parties.

Red velvet cake's problem has always been that it never tastes as rich as it looks. I can't imagine using the batter to deep fry anything would be a success.
