3. I'm still in a state of shock
He was buying some appliances for some property we manage and got such a deal! He set the whole thing up too. He cleaned out the old freezer and fridge last night and got rid of all the disgusting old stuff. He made sure I would be home for the delivery and was on the phone with me when they rang the door bell.

This is a major deal for me. I'm someone who agonizes about appliance purchases and it's just here now. It's so good.

9. Aw, gee - you've gone and got me all misty, now!
That was such a nice thing for him to do like that. Nice that you didn't have to think about a thing!

4. Great!!!
These french door fridges are here to stay. I can hardly wait to get going on picking out one and love to see how you all like them. The fact that you don't have to crouch over to see what's in there makes these so practical as well as making a narrower kitchen like mine roomier. Makes a one butt kitchen into a two butt kitchen!

Congrats on the fridge and the nice hubby.

6. It has a huge double basket pull out freezer.
The top part has multiple climate control drawers and cubbies. The side (inside door) shelves are wide and deep. It's fridgie heaven.

11. It is beautiful!
Let me know how it goes. At some point I will replace our fridge. Especially let me know about the finger print issue. We have a stainless dishwasher. I love the way it looks but I do spend a large amount of time polishing the fingerprints off.

13. Finger prints on stainless
A simple fact of life. Some newer appliances get past this with what appears to be a very thin plastic coating over the stainless.

And here's a dirty little secret about stainless steel polish .... the very best is good old oil. A little veggie oil, even.

Stainless counters ... never polish them ... just let 'em build their natural patina (scratches)

Stainless appliance fronts like fridges and dishwashers .... you could even use car polish.

But nothing really stops fingerprints. Just wash them off and get on with life. In fact, this may well be the best strategy. No polish, not protection, no nothing. Live with the fingerprints till you can't stand it and wash 'em. We use windex or a generic window cleaner. Works as well as anything.

14. I'm not troubled by the smudges
I tend to do a quick wipe every few days on my fridge anyway. When I have guests it will get a little more attention. Besides It's just greater incentive to wipe it off more frequently.

15. My kid wants that fridge, The only thing I don't like about
it are the black sides. My fridge has a low counter on the most visible side and the black will show. My neighbor just went stainless and was really unhappy when she realized that the black side was the first thing you saw when you walked into the kitchen. If only Maytag or GE had a french door fridge with gray or stainless sides :(.

16. The black side is a little different.
It's not a problem for me because I have only one side visible and it's close to my black stove. My daughters only complaint about this fridge is that you can't put magnets on the front. Having lived with the fricken magnets on the fridge for her to play with throughout her childhood, I'm delighted to get rid of them. She's having a bit of seperation anxiety about it. We've had to put the most favored ones on the side.

17. Suggestion:
Put up a piece of plywood to match your cabinets on the side of the refrig between the countertop and the ceiling. Run it up the side of the wall cabinet next to the fridge.

Alternatively .....

Make an exact, precise template of the side of the fridge (use a wide roll of brown kraft paper .... or even rosin paper) and have a sheet of thin stainless cut to match. Glue it to the side of the fridge. I expect this second option would cost only a few hundred bux .... like maybe 200. You can use a really thin metal ... like maybe even 24 gauge.

19. about the sides and size
First of all..........YIPE!!! Aren't they just the BEST!!

Now for anyone who will be looking for this great invention, Sears carries the Kenmore Trio French door model. In shopping for mine, I saw them in stainless and the sides were also stainless. At the time we bought ours (bisque) 2 years ago, they were $1850. We got ours at a Sears clearance (scratch & dent) center. It had a fairly long scratch (about 8 inches) down the side that was against the wall for us. As a result, we got it for $1100 and it includes all warranties. Something to think about if you are looking for appliances and have a Sears Clearance center near you. They carry all the brands that their stores carry. I'm about to start stalking them for a washer and dryer, scratches down both sides is fine with me, just knock those $$$ off!!

Another point, if you live in an older house, like I do, the kitchens built in the 50's and 60's generally don't have a very deep setback for the fridge and these babies are deep.

My husband took out the wall board behind the fridge area and reframed it. It gave us almost 5 more inches of space, to slide the fridge back. This was really important for us, since one side of the fridge is on the wall at the doorway leading into the kitchen. If we didn't do the cut out, the fridge would have stuck out about 2 inches into the doorway.

BTW, are you still going in and opening the doors and just staring at all that visibility? I did that for weeks. LOL

Mary
