I have 1 1/2 lbs of ground
but I would like to make something different, I'm thinking something like a hash with potatoes, onions, zucchini, tomatoes and spices I have plenty of lettuce also. I have some homemade refried beans, corn and flour tortillas and salsa

You all are so helpful - maybe a new idea from the same stuff like meatloaf, meatballs, hamburgers and tacos.

There are as many recipes as there are cooks, but it's the cheap and filling thing a lot of mothers throw onto the table at the last minute that everybody likes.

My mother's version was a bit different: ground beef, chopped onion, chopped celery, seasoned when browned/sweat with oregano and a teaspoon or so of curry powder. A can or two of concentrated tomato soup was added. It would pass for spaghetti sauce, be served on buns or in sub rolls, or mixed with cooked macaroni. It doesn't look like it, but it's remarkably good.

4. Actually, it's a combination of two words that basically each mean "mud"
and was originally a watery stew served over stale bread to stretch the both of them.

My mother's take on it was one of the best things she did, although that wasn't hard since she was such an unenthusiastic cook.

I've tried meatless versions but it's not just the same. It needs ground turkey, at the most pious, and cheap, greasy ground beef to be its best.

5. We always use Italian sausage and sliced zucchini when making slumgullion
Real small zucchini' though. No bigger around than a nickel.

It comes out really tasty too.

9. Years and years ago I think I made something like this
but can't remember the recipe. I think I added can of mushroom soup and peas but can't remember anything else. My daughter now in her 30's remembers me making it but at my age sometimes things get a little foggy! :( but I do enjoy getting older. She wants me to make it again.

6. Sometimes I make a skillet meal....
...with browned hamburger, chili powder, cumin, a can of beans, onion, zucchini, bell pepper, tomatoes, corn, and then melt lots of cheese on top. Serve with sour cream and tortillas and salsa. A meal in a pan.
