I'm done with the Next Food Network Star!
Is it me or is the show really lame this year? Has it always been this much of a snoozer?

I'm going to stop recording. I'll catch the updates at FNHumor. They are more interesting!

1. FN seems to be caught in this loop where "Here's a rice cake...
two asparagus stalks, and a can of pink salmon-- now make something delicious in 10 minutes or we'll cut your head off."

The only one of their competitions I watch is Flay's throwdown, because there are no prizes and nobody takes it seriously. And I learn about stuff like Tres Leches cakes.

(But, mention Flay around here and it takes seconds for people to chime in how they hate him, almost as much as Cuomo's girlfriend. Go figure.)

2. I like Throwdown too

I think it's fun to see how both Bobby and his competitor make the same basic thing so differently, with very different results. And I love hearing about non-celebrity folks around the country making fabulous dishes, and then how Bobby makes it "his way". It's a fun show.

I think Bobby Flay has matured a lot and developed a less ego-centric presona over the years. Nice to see. He's been associated with the Food Network for quite some time now, and has begun to take on more of a leadership role in the network.

3. Love him or hate him, the man can cook
and he can cook just about anything. I'll allow anyone that talented to be a bit of a wanker, they've earned it.

I'm not a fan of "Throwdown." They rarely do anything I'm particularly interested in.

5. It looks as though they are putting the real cooking shows on Cooking Channel
I get that new channel with DirecTV so if you don't get it on cable or whatever you have, fuss at them. There are some of the old Food Network shows, and some that are new to me, but that do not seem to be new productions. I haven't watched it consistently yet, but have found some new shows that I try to catch, when I remember their names.

Let's see: http://www.cookingchanneltv.com/shows/index.html

I liked the one episode of Everyday Exotic, I'd like to catch the Rachel Allen: Bake!, Indian Made Easy and Chinese Made Easy.

And the BEST part is they have the Two Fat Ladies! Even if the food they cook is a little strange for my tastes, they are so much fun to watch!

4. Actually this show isn't that bad
I wouldn't put it in the same category as Top Chef. It also doesn't have the pure :wtf: train wreck type entertainment value of Hell's Kitchen. But it's not bad enough that I don't watch it.... (Even with Bobby Flay) Maybe they'll get better at picking those Stars someday.
