Get some dried figs. The dark mission figs. Chop them up. Put them in a sauce pan with enough balsamic to barely cover. Heat them up until the figs are really soft. Put the figs and the balsamic in a food processor. Get them as fine as possible. You really want fig paste.
Add the figs to some balsamic. Maybe two parts balsamic to one part figs to start. You want it sorta syrupy. Add some more balsamic if needed. Now add some vanilla extract. We used Penzy's. Maybe 1 or 1-1/2 tsp. Maybe 2? I dunno. To taste.
Sweeten if needed. I used blue agave syrup. You can also use honey. Or sugar, I guess.
The sauce is supposed to be on the sweet side. Not sweet like maple syrup. But sweet.
To taste.
Now dip that warm bread.
I defy you to limit it to just one slice.

1. Yum! I do a sauce like it but instead of vanilla I steep a sprig of rosemary |

in balsamic and ripe fresh figs and sugar (the amount depends on how sweet the figs are). I reduce it in a sauce pan, take out the sprig and process until smooth. Like your sauce it's great for dipping and it's terrific to dress a plate of grilled chicken, pork chops or veggies.
My neighbor has a fig tree.
