The Remains of the Day
Ms. Maden is just not that interested in cooking, she admitted. Yet she hosts an annual dinner party that is one of the most sought-after invitations in Jamestown, R.I., a small island town (around 5,000 people and one traffic light) in Narragansett Bay. For the last 10 years, she has held a Thanksgiving leftovers potluck on the Saturday after the holiday.

5. We used to do the potluck for Thanksgiving
and if there were any leftovers, eat them at home on Black Friday.

6. Our family always prepared so much food
that my mom started instructing everyone to bring their own take home containers so they would stop raiding hers. That way even the people who didn't cook got enough to take home for another meal the following day.
