Does anyone here have a good, tried and true recipe for Bigos?
I had a delicious version at a local Polish restaurant and I'd like to try it at home. I could surf all of the cooking sites that I have bookmarked but I'm hoping someone here has a family recipe or facsimile.

1. A friend of mne makes it so I asked her how she does it
Here's her reply:

This is a non recipe recipe. Kinda like making soup

Your base is kapusta - fresh cabbage mixed with sauerkraut diced bacon fried crisp (but you can leave this out)and about a 1/2 cup of BBQ sauce - add water as needed

Cook till fresh cabbage is cooked then you start to add some chicken - chicken breast left overs, pieces of sausage - smoked or fresh

I also like to add some potato dumplings and finally a can of whole tomatoes. Cook till everything is warmed up.

Basically what ever is hanging around in the fridge - that one pork chop, etc.

5. Your welcome, I'm making it tonight
I had two 1/2 full bags of cole slaw cabbage with the shredded carrots. So I browned an onion and added the cabbage & a cup of sauerkraut and some water.
Then I found one pork chop and leftover bbq'd spare ribs.
Added them after the cabbage/sauerkraut softened, along with bbq sauce, a can of diced tomatoes and more water

It's all potting down and the house smells great. I only wish I has a chicken breast to add. I'll make mashed potatoes to have on the side.

:hi:
