April '09 Cooking and Baking Project.
Edited on Wed Apr-08-09 09:29 AM by hippywife
I decided to go ahead and post this since there is a holiday coming up this weekend for those who celebrate it. The majority of votes as of this morning were cast for a potato dish/casserole. Just as last month, everyone is welcome to submit their recipes and results for their preferred preparation rather than having everyone make the same one.

How does everyone feel about starting to alternate months to have a cooking project one month, with a baking project the next?

1. Potatoes it is, then. And I like the idea of alternating cooking and baking projects.
I'm off to look for recipes.

2. I'd be okay with both kinds each month.
People could do both a baking and a cooking project, or just choose one. Also, will there be a specific date for posting by? Like maybe a three-day period toward the end of the month where everyone posts their results? Having everyone post on one "official" thread would help people who wanted to find the recipes in one place.

3. I have tried to get everyone to post in one thread
Edited on Wed Apr-08-09 10:59 AM by hippywife
by the last day of the month. Results usually end up all over the place. LOL

With everything else folks have going on in their lives, I think maybe one project a month is enough. Also it allows everyone enough time to search out their recipe, gather any needed ingredients, and have time to make it. Remember, these projects might not always be easy ones. ;)

I would like it if everyone would come back to this thread and post their recipes and results this time, tho.

:hi:

4. The photography group has a monthy photo contest.
They set a theme then announce the dates to submit. Announce first week of month, then the first week of the following month post an entry thread. Usually two threads back to back, one for entries only with open/close date and one for comments on the entries.

Worth a thought to help organize.

FWIW I was really up for the crepes theme but couldn't find a lot of responses--not that there weren't, I just didn't find them cause, like you said, they're all over the place. The ones I found were GREAT.

6. Yeah, I was trying to do something similar so
I had posted polls first for everyone to vote on what they wanted to do. Then once the item is selected, I posted this so people can, if they will, post their recipes and results here. I think I now understand why the photo group also runs a separate discussion thread for the submissions.

7. One thread would have been great.
I think the confusion happened when it was stated that everyone was to report their results on the last day of the month, which kinda seemed like we were not supposed to discuss what we were doing or the results at all during the time before the last day. We like to talk too much to wait!

I think ONE thread would be great!! Even if it ends up with hundreds of posts & bunches of subthreads. Might even be worth kicking enough to keep it on our front page so it's easy to find. A good thing to find recipes, questions & answers. Just not a 'last day of the month results report'.

9. I really don't mind if everyone posts as they
complete the project, really. My thinking at the time for waiting til the end of the month was that we would have one thread with all the recipes and results all together, a better way to control the possibility of that happening. But I sure don't mind doing it in this thread at whatever point folks want to. No need to wait til the end of the month at all. :hi:

5. Woohoo! potatoes! I can do potatoes

I'm going to incorporate ginger root some how. Hmm.. potatoes are indigenous to the sub-tropics? Hmm.. I may go with a traditional cuisine or something.

Sweet potatoes allowed?

This is going to be fun.

8. I loooove the idea of sweet potatoes.
I am completely stumped at the idea of a potato casserole. But sweet potatoes or yams might be interesting.

14. I like it.
I like the idea of alternating between cooking and baking projects. I never posted in the crepe threads because my crepes were such a dismal failure. (Note to self: It really is time to order that blue steel crepe pan from Williams Sonoma.)

Also, a suggestion if you are looking to keep things organized into one thread. How about opening up a thread titled something like, "RESULTS: April C&B Project - Potato Dish" right after posting what the newest project will be. Then in the OP of the project announcement thread, remind everyone to post their results in the current results thread.

15. Are we going to have a separate thread at the end of the month for recipes tried?
