What are you making your sweetie for Valentine's Day?
Mine gets shrimp wrapped in bacon and a simple pasta dish. He is picky and mostly I ignore his dislikes, but two days a week, Valentine's and his birthday, I indulge.

1. It is 4.30 PM here and I have NO idea what Sparkly's gunna get
But I'm about to head over to the grocery store and make up the menu as I walk around!

I'm kinda thinking of steamed mussels in a Pernod and garlic/herb sauce. Some crusty bread ...... a tomato salad ...... a little wine ...... glass of Pellegrino .... some chocolate biscotti and espresso ......

Or maybe ....... :)

6. H2S made a fantastic dinner!!
If I may brag on H2S: he made grilled lobster tails (claiming they were on sale, I hope so), roasted red peppers, tomato & red onion salad, and those mussels with a sauce of garlic, wine, heavy cream (eek!), and a splash of pernod --and a nice loaf of bread to soak up the sauce. It was really heavenly!

Thanks, sweetie! :loveya:

Tomato salad (I found some Ugly Ripes at the store!)

Grilled red peppers

Crusty baugette

Two chocolate tarts for dessert.

9. I thought it was kind of bland.
SO liked it, that's what is important.

Do you marinate a whole chicken or just the parts?

16. I marinate the parts
Usually, I marinate the breasts and use the rest of the chicken for soup. I seem to like the dark meat in soups along with the back.

11. We had a simple meal
It was a Monday night, after all.

We started with cosmopolitans, a pink drink for Valentine's day.
I prepared penne with a creamy tomato sauce. While the sauce was finishing up, we had spinach salads with cucumbers, feta, dried cranberries and balsamic vinaigrette. Then we had the penne with homemade baguettes to sop up the extra sauce. We finished the meal with slices of apple tart. It was yummy! :9

12. I made a picnic!
(Our V-day was Saturday, as we live in different cities and both had to work Monday.)

ナSalad of hearts of palm and olives in a lemon-oregano dressing, over Boston lettuce
ナProsciutto and fresh mozzarella sandwiches with tomato-basil relish and arugula; served with blood orange segments and pomegranate seeds
ナChocolate pot-au-creme, with raspberry sauce, whipped cream and fresh raspberries

It went over very well. :D

14. Ramen noodles
LOL, I'm not kidding. He was (is) sick and wouldn't eat all day. Then just before midnight he decided he wanted a ramen noodle dish he likes so I threw it together in 5 minutes.

Actually, it's very good. I just take a package of Maruchan brand creamy chicken flavor (about 10 cents) and boil the noodles for 3 minutes. While they boil, I take a pasta bowl and put about a tablespoon of butter and HALF the package of salt, errrrr flavoring and about a table spoon or so of the water the noodles are boiling in, to help melt the butter quickly.

When the noodles are done, I lift them out of the water with a strainer and swirl them around in the butter and flavoring. Then I add a tablespoon or so of heavy cream swirl somemore and sprinkle some garlic pepper over. All done.

Normally, when he's feeling well, I'd add broccoli and a sliced tomatoes salad, but him was sooooo sick, he just wanted the comfy creamy noodles.

Mary
