Today we had the third repair on our Kitchenaid dishwasher. That's a bit less than one repair a year.

That, to me, is excessive.

The door spring was the first problem. $150

The controller board. Covered under warranty.

(Today) A blown fuse as a result of simply using the pot scrubber setting (according to the appliance guy). $189.

The pump motor has gotten quite loud. The appliance guy says it is dying. It may last a few days .... or a few years. He said when it goes, get a new dishwasher.

He recommends a Bosch.

1. dude I love my new Bosch
totally

get one.

really.

get the one with a quick rinse option, but you don't need much else.

scrape (don't rinse) dishes, put in DW, forget until it's full, push On/Off button and walk away.

they are the BOMB!!

2. I wonder if Kitchenaid does the same this as Maytag.
We bought a Maytag washer and dryer and soon learned, as they began to crap out, they were really "Magic Chef," an inferior brand. I'll never trust Maytag again.

7. Actually, it is Whirlpool ..... but yeah ...... someone else makes 'em .....
Their literature and calls to their service department yield the confirmation of Whirlpool.

3. We just went from a Kitchen Aid to a Bosch
Also because the appliance-store repairman recommended it. One thing to watch out for, though, is that it doesn't have as many places to tuck small items. It's hard to, for intance, put our plasticware in the top rack without having it flip over in the wash. We've gotten very good at propping things with heavy bowls.

6. I think your Kitchen Aid buttcrack has given you very sound advice
because everything I've read says Bosch is much better.

Kitchen Aid for mixers, Bosch for dishwashers...

8. Nothing is to be trusted these days ..... :sigh:
We bought this one after having a long and carefree life out of our last Kitchenaid dishwasher. It ran out of style before it ran out of the ability reliably do what it was supposed to do. It had replaceable decor panels. I shouldda slapped a sheet of stainless in it and let it stay. That's what we did with the refrigerator. The only down side for the old KA was the wear to the rubber coating on the racks. It was worn off and no replacement racks were to be had. Also the appliance guy said they probably wouldn't be able to get parts for much longer.

So we bought the new unit on the basis of great service from the old unit.

Feh .... who knew ......

9. You know we got the Bosch a couple of years ago
We got the extended warranty since we never had a d/w till then. We did have one thing go wrong and it was covered under warranty.

I really love the thing but have nothing to compare. I'd get another Bosch based on our good experience.

10. one more rec for bosch
i beat the shit out of mine. had one repair call in about 12 years. and that was something minor. don't even remember now what is was, but i think it might have been a clogged strainer that we were too stupid to take care of.
i would buy another in a heartbeat.

11. See ....... that's why I bought my current KA ....... a very successful previous ownership
Our last KA was a workhorse that never quit. I bought the current (really shitty) one ..... in a heartbeat.

12. KA
has totally sold out, imho. i forget who bought them, and they were maybe bought after that, even. if i had to replace my stand mixer, i would haunt the second hand stores until i found an old one.

13. I am not thrilled with my Kitchenaid either.
I had the same door spring repair..... twice. This time the repair guy claimed that the spring had been redesigned and wouldn't break again. It is a pricey dishwasher, too. Mine was scratch and dent, but still, I will be annoyed if it is not around for quite a few more years.
