In honor of Friday Pizza Night...
name the one topping you must always have and the one you can't stand on your pizza.

My must have is banana peppers. My can't stand is green pepper.

Sorry! We were hungry and couldn't wait. :D

1. Must have onions; must not - hamburger
Hamburger just sits there and doesn't add any flavor at all. :P

Nice looking pizza. :9

2. I totally agree on the hamburger.
And as much as I love black olives, hate 'em on pizza. They don't taste good hot.

Thanx! :hi:

3.
Our usual pizza is a plain ol' Margarita which has as its only elements mozz, tomato, garlic, and basil. When we venture beyond that, anything goes!

My favorite American style pizza combination is pepperoni and anchovies. My oldest son and I are the only two people in the world who I know order this one. Before our former favorite local pizzeria closed a few years ago, they would know our name by the order we placed. :)

4. My other half and my dad
both like anchovies. I've tried, I really have. I just don't even think of them when talking pizza toppings or else that would have been my second answer to this question.

The one above has your dry sauce with sliced provolone, baby bellas, marinated artichokes, onion, green olives, and banana peppers topped with shredded six Italian cheese blend. It really does smell like a pizzeria in here.

I love pepperoni but it don't love me no more. :(

5. I go here:
www.transfermke.com

And I will order *anything* off their menu.

I got anchovies last time because I don't usually like them on pizza, but Transfer does no wrong in my book.

They did no wrong with the anchovies, either.

They also have a garlic, fried potato, and chicken pizza that's fabulous. And weird. But fabulous.

If I'm making pizza, I'll put mushrooms on it for sure.

I'm not really a fan of sausage or pepperoni on chain pizzas.

9. I really miss having
good locally owned pizza joints nearby. That's great that yours uses local organic produce in season.

6. I made spicy meatball subs with pizza sauce tonight -- so that was close
Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 11:34 PM by htuttle
BTW, I got my sauce recipe from one of the Balistreri boys in Milwaukee when I drove cab there. Them that know Milwaukee know who I'm talking about.

In any case, back on the topic, I have to have onions and preferably sausage on my pizza. Can't stand cheese that isn't Italian on them. Mexican pizzas are a crime against food. (nothing against Mexican cuisine -- just not on my pizza pie).

on edit:

Got to add another topping I hate on pizza: chicken. Now, I really like chicken. I eat it several times per week. But on a pizza? It's just... wrong.

10. I love to mess with the cheese
and try something different but I never go outside the Italian family. My husb-- um, other half will throw cheddar on it if I let him cook. Hmmmm...nope.

I really don't like anything non-traditional on a pizza. If I want pizza, I want pizza, ya know?

I love a fantastic meatball sub. Or my favorite salami, capicola, pepperoni, provolone, sliced tomato, topped with lettuce and diced onion that have been tossed in a vinaigrette, and lots of banana peppers! Oh, it's been so very long. :9

I bet yours were fabulous! What makes that sauce recipe the best, do you think? I'm not familiar with it at all.

:hi:

11. I think what makes it my favorite is the way heat is used. It seems to bring out a lot of flavor
First, saute a few cloves of minced garlic in a tablespoon or two of olive oil. Apply heat until you can start to smell it but before the garlic actually browns much.

Add a tablespoon or two of tomato paste, along with generous amounts of basil, parsley and oregano. For marinara, I use more basil and less oregano. For pizza sauce, I use more oregano and less basil. I also add a few pinches of dried red pepper flakes for some zing.

Then stir fry the paste/spice mixture along with the garlic in the oil for a minute or so, then add some red wine, stir, then add about 8 oz of tomato sauce.

I sometimes toss in a bay leaf and maybe a teaspoon of sugar if I'm making marinara. And a bit of salt. Then I cover and simmer on low for about 15 minutes, or whenever I need it.

I find it really easy to make and it's good enough to just dip bread into when it's done. It also tends to be fairly garlicy.

12. I never use oregano.
Just sweet basil and fennel seed. I've just never cared for the taste of oregano or bay leaf. But I may try this method on a future pizza.

Thanx! :hi:

7. I made the worst pizza
ever last nite. It looked wonderful. I took frozen spinach and wrung out the liquid and mixed it with fresh grated parm and minced garlic. I diced some pancetta and fried it crisp and added it to the spinach. I poached a chicken breast and diced it. I put all on the pizza with plenty of parm and mozzarella. All you could taste was the spinach. Too much cheeze for the chickens so it got thrown out. Hubby made a sandwich.
Your pizza looks divine.

8. I wouldn't have thrown it out.
I would have put it in the fridge overnight and waited to see what it tasted like the next day. Those other flavors would have had a chance to over power the spinach. And if not, I would have pulled some of the spinach off if it was too much, or added some seasonings to the chicken breast to perk it all up.

I'd have done anything to keep from throwing it out! LOL

13. Must have -- green olives. Must not have -- anchovies.
When I go out I always get the most colorful pizza that is being offered. I like most of the traditional toppings.

14. Must have - black olives. Can't stand - mushrooms
My husband is allergic to mushrooms and I just don't like them (it's a texture thing, I think) so we always agree when it comes to pizza!

A 2nd must have - tomatoes
