Not a cooking topic
but I'm in the middle of a serious rainstorm - can barely see to the other side of the road. Thunder is incredibly loud, and all my dogs are literally or practically in my lap (not room for all). Even the one dog who is normally the least "afraid".

Haven't had one of these storms for a while.

1. Hope it's blown over by now
Here in CO where we're up in altitude plus we live at the top of a hill, the storms can be pretty strong as they pass over. Many years ago I had a German Shepherd and two cats trying to get into my lap. So sure know how it might have been for you today. A trembling long haired Shepherd is a sorry sight.

I hope your yard hasn't washed away!

2. We got caught in a storm while we were camping at the beach last week.
Luckily we had already packed up camp and were on the way out. The kids wanted to play one last game at the cheesy beach arcade, so I asked my husband to take them in while I sat in the car and stared at the ocean. It started sprinkling. Then the wind picked up. Hail. The car started to rock from the gusts and the ocean got big. I was starting to get concerned. My husband comes dashing across the parking lot, kids in tow and we high tailed it outta there! The locals said it was no biggie, happens all the time, but I was concerned.

Hope you still have electricity. In my area, when we get a big storm, the electricity usually goes out, sometimes for days.

3. I can't remember if I read it here or someplace else, but rubbing a dog
with a dryer sheet before a thunderstorm is supposed to help their anxiety by reducing the static electricity that is present.

4. "Rubbing a dog with a dryer sheet"?

You mean like "Bounce"??

I'm not sure it's the static - I think it's the noise - but I've never heard that one.

7. Yes, but apparently any brand will work. I haven't tried this myself since my
dog isn't bothered by storms, but thought it was a very interesting and cheap fix if it works.

5. I wish I were there. Seriously. I absolutely LOVE big thunderstorms.
We virtually never have thunderstorms here. We DO get some hellacious downpours with our winter rains, but we only see measurable rain on about 7 days a year, I think.

6. I love them too. Actually, all extreme weather.
Don't know why.

But we have 5 dogs and normally they keep to themselves, but during a thunderstorm they are all over me - following me to the basement, bathroom - all over. There's one or two (mainly the Shih Tzu and the Border Collie) that follow me around, but during a storm they're all clingy. It's weird having an entourage like that.
