Poll question: I like to cook "__________"
I've suggested some ways that sentence can be completed. Surely there are many others. The suggested responses will, hopefully, provide you a clear idea of the topic.

Personally, I least like to cook alone.

1. James Beard used to say that he liked to cook early
in the morning, naked. He particularly mentioned that he always cooked naked, early in the morning, before he was having a party. Eeeek! The mental image of Beard, naked is something I could do without. And I don't think I would have been a happy camper at one of his parties.

I do not enjoy cooking with DH. He always asks a million questions. And then, when we're getting ready for a party & I'm plating up, he'll question every dish I use. Drives me nuts & gets me all freaked out right before everyone shows up.

3. with my SO
As much as I enjoy cooking alone, I loooove cooking with Sniffa...he's an excellent cook, and a magnificent cooking partner. :)

4. Mostly alone but sometimes with hubby
If he's cooking with me, we bump into each other but it's still fun. If I'm the only one cooking, he has to be told to pick an out of the way spot and stay put. He likes to pace around the kitchen when he's just gabbing with me and then he's in my way as I bustle around.

Barbecuing with anyone outdoors is great since there's plenty of room to walk around someone without crashing into each other!

I don't mind kibitzing in the kitchen so long as I'm the one doing it!

5. I cook alone
but not by choice

Mr. K is pretty hopeless in the kitchen. he has one talent, he chops tomatoes, onion and avocado for tacos perfectly but other than that, unless i ask him he stays out of the kitchen

ooo I forgot, he makes instant mashed taters pretty good too

7. I think you need a mid-category
I like to do the cooking, but I like it with my SO there. I don't want her to help (she can't cook for shit - oops, did I say that?) but I like to cook with others around, as long as they're not helping. Cooking by myself, all alone? Doesn't happen, because chances are I'll just make a sandwich or something quick.

8. I can't talk and cook at the same time, esp. if I'm trying to follow a
recipe. Sometimes my sister and I cook together, and I can handle that because we both cook like our mother and we don't have to talk much.

9. early in the morning, when no one is awake
Not the neighbors, not my family, not anybody. I like to cook the vegetables from my garden in to salads, soups, side dishes, and entrees.

10. Spousal agreement: cook alone
I don't hang out in the kitchen when he cooks and vice versa.

Mr 40'under would be in the way if I had to dash outside from my indoor kitchen duty while tending to my outdoor BBQ!

11. With my friend.
She and I can share a kitchen - a rarity in my life. DH and I don't do well in the kitchen together because I totally suck at delegating, so the best he ever gets to do is chop onions - he's genetically incapable of crying over them. (He's also not affected by skunk or by tear or pepper gas.) But K and I can share a kitchen, and if she had a gas stove instead of her evil electric, we'd be golden.

12. I've done it all
Doing the flying kitchen thing with Chinese food on a portable gas ring in front of a crowd was fun. Doing the prep work alone was satisfying. The only person I've ever been able to share a kitchen with comfortably is a good friend back home in Massachusetts, though. I'm not a companionable cook.

Maybe if I had one of those kitchens that was big enough to hold a barn dance in it would be different.

14. "by the seat of my pants"
It seems like I really do my best work when I have
no recipe, no plan,....
Those times when I have to "throw something together"
at the last minute, or when I have to "make do" with
whatever ingredients happen to be on hand;
those have turned into some of my favorite dishes,
or at least some of my best tricks & shortcuts.

15. I Like a Posse in the Kitchen As Long As ...
They don't try to do something silly, like think for themselves, too much. And I also like being part of the posse - it helps teach me to keep my mouth shut!

My mom, my oldest brother and I all seem to think we're the only ones who know what we're doing in the kitchen. Nothing but fights when two or more of us are together in there.
