Wine recommendations for South Indian food?

Going to dinner tonight at a friend's house and she's making several south Indian dishes. I'm supposed to bring the wine, one red and one white. Friend said that the best wine is very slightly sweet (not too dry).

Can anyone recommend something good? Red and/or white?

Many thanks...

1. Sorry no one answered this before
I was fixed to Katrina news and have been gone from C&B, even though I'm in CA and not directly affected by the storm. Except for the dent the donation made in my bank account. :)

I don't know South Indian food. For spicy food, I'd go with something "fruity," like Zinfandel. A California Chardonnay would be good for white. I can't picture something sweet like Reisling, myself, but maybe it's just my ignorance about South Indian food.

What did you take? How did it go?

2. Actually a Riesling is a good choice if you must have wine
For my money Beer is the way to go with Indian Food. And actually, Indian Beer can be pretty good.

3. Good suggestion. I'll add:
A viognier (spicy Rhone white) or a DRY rose (and there are some excellent ones out there lately) would also go nicely with Indian food.

And second that suggestion on beer, Indian or otherwise (I'd probably go with a nice IPA from your local microbrew).
