Does anyone read Taste of Home?
I love reading this monthly recipe magazine. No ads and a variety of recipes (including recipes for pennies, for singles and couples, theme meals). It also has pics of some of the "field editors" around the country, and they're almost always from podunk towns and they almost always look like refugees from the worst part of the 80s. These women are probably conservative nuts, but they sure give me some amusement, reading their favorite mealtime prayers, etc. Reiman Publications, its publishing company, has many other country type mags, and they're probably the worst kind of conservative evil, but damnit I love this mag so much.

What are your favorite cooking magazines?

:hi:

1. Cook's Illustrated. Cannot be beaten.
I think Husb2Sparkly is also a fan--it has comprehensive instructions on its recipes, and their product reviews are GREAT. It's published by the same group that does the America's Test Kitchen show on PBS I mentioned in the other thread.

3. I have one big complaint with Cook's Illustrated
It's not frickin big enough. I want more....more.... more.

I also like Saveur....For the articles... (It's photos are pure food porn and are amazing)

5. Second vote for
Saveur. I've done lots of their recipes from the mag & the cookbooks & have had only one bomb. That's a record. All the rest have gotten rave reviews.

I also get Bon Appetite & Gourmet. I don't think either are as good as Saveur & too many of the recipes call for ingredients that would have me running all over town, but they have pretty pictures.

I also get David Rosengarten's Report. I really don't know what to think. It's more a list of 'best of' & everthing seems to be uber expensive. Probably I won't renew.

best

7. It's one of our favorites because the recipes actually work,
and can be made in the real world, which is not always the case with some of the "fancier" cooking magazines.

9. I like Cook's Illustrated
and also Everyday Food which is from Martha Stewart. Has lots of nice recipes and good instructions and tips. Cook's Illustrated is pricey but has no ads and its also a wealth of information. I still have a subscription to A Taste of Home. Got a deal and ended up subscribing for about 4 years! But I hardly ever even look at it. Seems to have lots of casserole type dishes which I don't care for.
