Old music to iPod
I'm considering getting an iPod for that long plane ride to Japan next month (I've checked out the film schedule and the audio schedule for that flight, and I'm completely underwhelmed), and I'm intrigued by the possibility of putting my old cassette tapes into digital form. It seems cheaper than replacing all fifty of them with CDs.

Is there a way to do this that's not too techie for someone like me? (I can usually figure out the basics of any gizmo, but I balk at the fancy stuff. ) What I'm looking for is stereo cassette deck-->computer-->iPod.

1. Lydia, first you need a way to convert analog to digital.

You can do this in one of two ways, either software or hardware. In software, I use Roxio Boombox which includes spin doctor to do the conversion. The new version also has a play list editor, I believe to create playlists for the ipod.

In hardware, you can use Griffin's iMike to convert the line out audio from your cassette to USB input to the Mac. Then import it into iTunes.

And DO get the iPod, you'll love it. I'm a geezer - my wife prefers sexy senior citizen - and I've put all my old 50s and 60s folk and early rock on it. Great for listening on long drives.

2. Thanks, reprobate!
Everyone who has an iPod has told me that they absolutely love it.
