ipodrip/itunes problem - anyone help
a few days a couple duers suggested ipodrip software

purchased it loaded it and have had various problems so that maybe 3 times total i have been able to use it
but i have been able to use it

for some unknown reason now i have a worse problem
now itunes crashes if my ipod is plugged in through firewire
so forget even getting to ipodrip

im not very experienced any longer with technology as i have been definitely out of that loop but i do love my emac and have not had any problems heretofore with software bugs though i havent done anything much to cause any issue

clearly ipodrip is not interacting well with what i have so any suggestions how to fix this

i have contacted ipodrip tech support but am not getting very far with that since he suggested for my initial spate of problems to do a screen capture to send him but his instructions didnt produce a screen capture for me
and now my email address isnt working so i was hoping someone here can help

(the screen capture he sent of ipod options (tabs labeled "music" "podcasts" etc) is not what my ipod options looks like
mine only present "music" and "general" tabs and not an enable disk usage option - perhaps my itunes needs updating but i still dont know why all of a sudden itunes crashes when ipod is plugged in esp since things had worked a couple times together)

i have itunes 4.7.1 with panther 10.3.6

sorry for the length but im trying to give any details i can think of
this is more complicated for me but i know its not for many of you
thanks so much

2. First things first. Updating iTunes won't touch
your library. go for it.

To do a screen capture, hit the Apple key (command), shift 3. Hitting those keys together will take a picture of your screen. It will name it Picture 1 or Picture 2. On mine it saves the image to the desktop, or on yours it might be in your Documents folder.

If you want to capture just a window, hit Apple Key-Shift-4. The cursor will turn to a crosshairs. Click/hold and drag the cursor over the window you want to save. Notice it greys out. That way you know it is working. Release.

I don't have an iPod, and can't be of much help with anything to do with it.

4. Let me know what's happening.
Hope you can figure it out.

It could be the version you have is not compatible with the version of OSX. What version are you running?

5. i have itunes 4.7.1 with 10.3.6
i have just deleted ipodrip on the unlikely possibility that the newest itunes has an issue with it
so right now im downloading itunes 4.9 on my dialup and will install it
then reinstall ipodrip

thats my plan thus far and ill let you know how it proceeds
thank you

7. Do check to see if iPodrip is optimized for
10.4. There might be a problem with pre Tiger builds.

6. update: i no longer need help for this
Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 03:36 PM by faithnotgreed
as everything on my ipod has just been completely deleted somehow

40 gb of songs and books etc gone but its ok
its just stuff anyway and not important at all in the scheme of things

on edit: thanks alfredo for your help
unfortunately for you i will need help again with other mac questions

for example: so i can really just do a backup of my emac on cds and when i need to reinstall this information on a new computer (whenever that time comes if my hd breaks down) then it will just reinstall and work with no hitches

8. AAARRRGGHHH!!! How did that happen?
Still, that's a lot of time lost. You put in a lot of time deciding on what to put on and actually putting it on the iPod.

I see it recommends iTunes 4.9 or later. That could have been the root of your problems, or it could have just been bad luck.

9. i really dont know how it happened
but its a lesson learned (i hope)

it had worked sporadically with my earlier itunes and ive just upgraded today so i didnt get the chance to see how that went

when i brought up the 4.9 version i got this message
itunes cannot read the contents of the ipod "helen wheels"
use the ipod software updater application to restore ipod to factory settings

this was the first i had seen that message so i checked the ipod and sure enough
nothing under the songs or playlists etc

i would love to have it back but since that isnt going to happen then i have to let it go

thanks for screaming "arrrgh" for me though
thankfully i dont have that in me to do right now so if it sets in later i will know it has been declared already

take care

10. Could it have transferred instead of copying the data?
I am whupped too. I just finished phone banking for Change for Kentucky, the Kentucky affiliate of Democracy For America. It's really tiring. I'd rather canvass.
