***PLEASE*** stop more tax cuts for the wealthy, budget cuts for the poor.
Please stand up for 'the least of these' & send a letter to Congress @ http://go.sojo.net/campaign/moral_budget

Thank you!

From Sojourners...

Stand Up for a Moral Budget

The week of Oct. 17 to 21, Congress will make decisions about the federal budget that could hurt millions of poor people. Unless their hearts and minds are changed, Congress will vote in coming weeks to do two things: cut $35 billion from Medicaid and Food Stamps, low-income health care and nutrition programs; and pass new tax cuts of $70 billion, which primarily benefit the wealthy. Some political leaders want to make even more cuts to low-income programs, and the president recently called for increasing cuts to those programs by $50 billion - to a total of $85 billion.

That political leaders still plan to make these cuts - even after the depth of poverty that Katrina has exposed - is morally unconscionable. We need better leadership and better moral logic.

Budgets are moral documents. A nation's budget reflects its priorities. Now is the time to put those priorities in order - to draw a line in the sand against unjust policies and stand up for the common good.

Join us in urging Congress not to cut taxes for the wealthiest at the expense of "the least of these."

Please send a letter to Congress @ http://go.sojo.net/campaign/moral_budget

1. That we even have to have this discussion....
shows how pathetic this country has become. Pariah state comes to mind once again. Not cutting social programs and not giving the rich even more tax breaks is a no-brainer pretty much everywhere else.

3. As I watched the treatment of poor people during
hurricane Katrina, I thought, I hoped that we would see the need to help those with less. But instead, the hurricane has become an excuse to hurt them even more. I am so angry. My letters will be sent! My phone calls will be made. I don't know what else to do with this anger.

5. I can think of a few things....
give to non-denominational organizations that help the poor. Also, my personal favorite is UNICEF, because children are the most vulnerable in these terrible times. We can all do our small part, and hopefully it will help some folks in need. Obviously, our government (including many dems) won't do anything.

6. Which is why we need to demand that our gov't DO SOMETHING...
... positive & just w/our taxes... like lifting people out of poverty, not putting people in graves.
