The surplus government food program is alive and well
It was suggested I post in this forum and just found it. The particulars are at this site, eligibility requirements, states that have the program, etc.:

<http://www.fns.usda.gov/fdd/programs/csfp/csfp_eligibility.htm>

A full list of states with the program is in the faq section. Here is the address.

1. notice this caveat in the text
"States may also require that participants be at nutritional risk. Risk assessment can be based on a variety of measures, including height and weight measurements and blood tests. Examples of nutritional risk conditions include anemia and inappropriate weight for height."

That sounds too complex to monitor!

2. The important thing is it is available and can
supplement other food programs.

3. does it supplement food banks?
Or is it distributed through their systems? IIRC, surplus food is part of the monthly boxes distributed by Salvation Army and other charities.

5. Thank you for this information.
My twins age out of WIC in June. We receive minimal food stamp benefits. I am going to look into this to see if we will qualify. It would be beneficial as all three of my boys come in as underweight on the growth charts.
