Sheri Tepper, author, former Exec Director PP
I woke this morning thinking about one of my favorite authors and the continuing discussions of Choice. I found out recently that she used to be the Executive Director of Rocky Mt Planned Parenthood. She writes books about alternative worlds with a strong feminist viewpoint. Many of them feature women in cultures taken from examples here on Earth. Her earlier books focus more on women's issues (though she also does a set of serious scifi). "Family Tree" involves ecology also (and numerous word plays), as others of her later books do also.

Sheri Stewart Tepper (born July 16, 1929) is a prolific American author of science fiction, horror and mystery novels; she is particularly known as a feminist science fiction writer, often with an ecofeminist slant.

Born near Littleton, Colorado, for most of her career (1962-1986) she worked for Rocky Mountain Planned Parenthood, where she eventually became Executive Director. She has two children and is married to Gene Tepper. She currently operates a guest ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

She has written under several pseudonyms, including A. J. Orde, E. E. Horlak, and B. J. Oliphant. Her early work was published under the name Sheri S. Eberhart.

3. Ah, "Gate to Women's Country" was great.
Very thought-provoking. It was part of a wave of feminist science fiction that, alas, has faded in the past decade or so.

2. How fascinating
I've been wanting to read her stuff for years, since I heard her on NPR. But then grad school intervened and I never got around to any of her work. I may have to rectify that.
