Photograph Your Sexual Harasser

This is good - a blog which strikes back at street harassment.

1. Well, uh
I have no problem with that as long as the people pictured have actually been found responsible/guilty of harassment by some impartial body, be it a court, a human resources division of a place of employment or a university judicial board, etc.

Otherwise, this leaves the door open for vigilantee justice and acts of retribution against men.

6. God forbid there should be an act of retribution
When randomguy jerks off in front of us in a public space or grabs us, we don't have a way to prosecute. We don't know who the hell he is.

We are sick of it. I am sick of it. I'm sick of being the one who smiles appeasingly while being harrassed so that allmen don't have to worry about having a photo posted on a website.

You want to know why women are taking action themselves instead of waiting for "the system" to help us? It's cause the system doesn't do shit for us. We figured that out ages ago. If you weren't aware of that, it's a sign of privilege on your part. You worry about your photo being put on a website? I worry about being sexually assaulted. Guess which I think is more critical.

72% of rapes/sexual assaults are not reported to the police. Those rapists, of course, never serve a day in prison. <1999 NCVS>
If the rape is reported to police, there is a 50.8% chance that an arrest will be made.
If an arrest is made, there is an 80% chance of prosecution.
If there is a prosecution, there is a 58% chance of a felony conviction.
If there is a felony conviction, there is a 69% chance the convict will spend time in jail.
So, even in those 28% of rapes that are reported to police, there is only a 16.3% chance the rapist will end up in prison.
Factoring in unreported rapes, about 5%—one out of twenty— of rapists will ever spend a day in jail. 19 out of 20 will walk free.

7. A question in all seriousness
How are unreported rapes documented? That is, how do we know how many occurred, if they're not reported? Or are we able to track the reports to crisis centers, hospitals, and the like? How?

I'm not being snarky; I just don't quite understand.

3. You've obviously never been harrassed. This isn't a game. Simply
having the ability to take a photo will protect you much much. The real harrassers are predators and will be messing with your stuff or your life or sending their friends out to harrass you. It is not like you don't have a history of fear when you reach for that camera. I wish I had had a camera for the times it happened to me. Now I carry one everywhere. Have not had to use it. I am happy both ways.

A camera on every street-corner, like in Britain.

Why the hell not. If you don't do anything - you have no worries.
