1. Actually there's a service like that for women too
I forget what it's called but they'll send you flowers and romantic emails and stuff from an imaginary perfect guy to make someone jealous or make people think you have a boyfriend. I think it was first.

2. Wow. How terminally tragic.
I'm not sure what's worse -- actually doing this or society making such a Web site viable. I mean, is being single a sign you're a freak or something?

3. I can see how this can be used for total vengeance
you see, you get one of these services to be someone else's imaginary b or g friend. Mix it up. Send a gushing love letter to their house! A torrid sordid love note "accidentally" sent to the wrong coworker.

Okay, that's too evil unless both spouses deserve it, but funny to think about.

6. I had a better idea
When my ex and I split up, I predicted who his next girlfriend was going to be, and I was accurate. She was a suburban mommy type with absolutely no sense of humor.

I'd left a forwarding address because I'd moved to another city, and occasionally I'd get some of his mail. I found a purveyor of perverted envelopes: Acme Labs/Herpes Test Results Enclosed, Chains & Leather/Clothing for the discriminating bondage afficianado, He/She Shoes/fashionable footware for the crossdresser, you get the drift. I also suspected humorless girlfriend was snagging his mail every day, something that turned out to be true.

He got the jokes. She didn't. It was great.

4. "We will not reveal to anyone besides you"
"We will not reveal to anyone besides you that the relationship with your Imaginary Girlfriend is not real."

Sorry, maybe I'm anal but why would they have to reveal this information to YOU? Are they worried that some of their clients might forget that the girl in their picture isn't really their girlfriend?

"Terminally tragic" - excellent description from the poster above.

5. The last thing I want
is an imaginary girlfriend. I mean, will she get mad if I forget our imaginary anniversary? Will I have to have incessant imaginary conversations about her mother? Will she leave her imaginary pantyhose hanging on the shower curtain-rod to dry? Will she have three smelly, bad-tempered imaginary cats? Will our imaginary sex life ultimately grow stale and tiresome? Will she dump me in the end for an imaginary lesbian? People pay for this?

8. Bitter much?
Before you go on about how evil women are, perhaps you might be wise to note you are posting in the "women's rights and issues" forum.

9. Humorless, much?
Before you go on lecturing me about women's rights and issues, maybe you should untie the knot in your underdrawers.

11. Ah yes, the "it's not sexism, it's humor" rebuttal
You might want to wander over to the Race and Equality forum and try using some negative racial stereotypes, you know, just for fun, and see how well received it is there. While you're at it, pop in to the GLBT issues forum and tell them to get the "knot" out of their "underdrawers" when they suggest that your negative stereotypes aren't very funny there either.

I hardly "lectured" you on women's rights and issues. I merely pointed out that using sexist negative stereotypes might not be warmly received in the very forum that was built to discuss those issues. Perhaps you'd have better luck in the Lounge? I understand sexist humor is still defended there.
