Some of those Charles and Camilla posts are disgusting
I haven't really been paying much attention to the wedding, but some of the younger DUers, especially the males, are making really nasty comments about Camilla, acting as if Charles is stupid or crazy for marrying someone who isn't a 20-year-old virgin.

The comments about her appearance make her sound like Medusa, when in fact, she doesn't look bad at all for someone age 56.

I guess these are the same dudes who go to airline review websites and rate airlines low if their flight attendants are "old and ugly" (probably all of 35 and normal-looking) as opposed to 22 and groomed like a model.

1. I agree, Lydia.
They are better ways to get the point across - that these two have done very little to improve the world relative to the wealth they have accumulated. Yes, I know Charles has made some relatively minor efforts, but he could have done much more - especially in light of the "salary" he gets paid annually. And how has she contributed to humanity - beyond raising a couple of spoiled brats?

2. Haven't been reading them. I just responded to one and men-
tioned that when I heard the taped conversation of Charles stating that he wanted to be a tampon made me think he's a little nuts. I still think that wanting to be a tampon is nuts.

3. I think he is an ugly, old, jug eared, mushmouthed bozo, myself
...with some sort of complex.

I think people are reacting to the fact that he did wrong by his first wife, by screwing around on her before, during and after the marriage. And since it takes two to tango, she gets a good bit of the blame too. She could have said "Get lost, Charlie--I'm MARRIED." And he could have let her be. You make the bed, now lie in it. It's not as though he didn't know the rules before he trotted down the aisle at a not at all tender age.

Instead, they behaved like asses. Now they build their happiness on the ruins of the misery of others.

Both of them are major losers, if you ask me. The monarchy--now there's an outfit that could stand to be privatized....

4. is charles any different than any other prince in the princedom world?
aren't they all playboys who contribute nothing to the world until at some point or another a king or queen dies and they inherit the throne? And, in the case of England isn't the Royal Family one which has no governing power? He became a single father who finished raising his two boys after Diana was killed, can you give him credit for that? ... I have always sort of liked Charles and I am glad that he and Camilla finally can share the same roof without everyone getting insulted about it. It is like two pieces of a puzzle that finally fit together!!!!

Anyhow, my only question now is, NOW THAT THEIR LOVE IS NO LONGER FORBIDDEN WILL IT BE AS LUSCIOUS AND AS LASTING AS IT WAS BEFORE?

5. If he'd been faithful to his first wife, he wouldn't have wound up
...a "poor widower" raising two sons alone (what a joke--nannies and boarding schools raised those kids). Diana never would have been speeding through that tunnel with a drunk at the wheel and Dodi Fayed at her side.

If C and C lose the spark, there's always Viagra, the chambermaid, or the footman, I suppose. I should think anyone would need a few stiff drinks to get busy with either one of them.

I just cannot get enthused about them, because I think they are way past their sell by date, as is the monarchy. They're selfish jerks, parasites on the British taxpayers, and the value they add to their increasingly multicultural nation is questionable on a good day.

But for those who like them, hey, more power!

7. If Charles had had enough guts to stand up to the queen and remain
faithful to his first and true love which was Camilla he wouldn't have married Diana and none of us would even be writing anything about this story here today.

6. It's the result of those pesky sex glands attatched to their eyeballs.
They really can't help it. Also, to anyone under 30, all women over 40 are crones and should be babysitting grandchildren and cooking big dinners on holidays, but not seen by the general public outside the home.

Personally, I find it rather touching that they married after all this time, and find my self horribly annoyed with a silly system of protocol and inherited tradition that prevented it 35 years ago. If they'd been allowed to marry then, fewer people would have been so badly hurt in the interim.

If Chuck had married another virginal 20 something trophy wife, I'd be ripping him to tatters.

8. I would suggest that some of the posters place their pictures on the
board an allow the DU community to critique their appearances including age

10. The trashing of the appearance of women seems to be common here
If the posters don't like a woman's politics or position, she gets trashed for her appearance. I find it rather annoying and demeaning. Argue their position not their hair.

Many here clearly don't like what Coulter says, but the TS comments are out of line. Same thing with the other conservatives and repug women. Noticed the same thing with Bush ladies (mom and daughters). Cheap shots at best.

The partisan nature of this is clear since I have never seen the same kind of things said about Maureen Down, Helen Thomas or Theresa Heinz-Kerry. I have to admit I have been tempted to toss that kind of comment in the mix just to see what happens.

I'm a guy and yes I notice appearance, but I am mature enough to not let it color my thinking and dialog about ideas and concepts.

11. Had a hard time avoiding the picture and the comments
this weekend. The only one I will offer is that I find amusing the thing the Brits have for hats and gloves. Pictures of Ascot and garden parties come to mind. While I appreciate the artistry and style, I am glad it stays on that side of the Atlantic. Some of them were quite striking.

12. I don't know
I usually hate the threads banging on about right wing women and how ugly they are (or the Bush twins are sluts threads, ann coulter is a man ones, or the Condi must be screwing Bush ones etc) but Camilla has a really really roughhead, not so much in comparison with the rest of Britain's inbred upper classes but in comparison with the rest of the world. I really can't muster too much sympathy for anyone in or around the royals - a stupid, outdated and reactionary institution - for getting called ugly, if and when we get to line them and their parasitic sponging family against a wall, then maybe I'll feel sorry for them (but probably not much)

As for "poor Diana" oh please, she too was screwing around and was a master manipulator of the press - she wasn't killed by her cheating husband or the paparazzi but by the simple fact that she didn't bother to put on a seatbelt while demanding her driver speed through the public streets of another country.
