Oh, where to post this?
I'm just disgusted with the way women's issues are treated here on DU. I'm not allowed to call out anyone, but this breast feeding thread was locked:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x5269264#5269277

because of the "expected" responses. I call bullshit on anyone who is not mature enough to deal with "BREAST FEEDING". There, I said it. OMG. BREAST FEEDING, BREAST FEEDING, BREAST FEEDING!!

Not to mention the threads on sexism. The misogynists, who cannot deal, come out of the woodwork to fight for their right (to hate) when there's wimin folk talking.

How about just getting getting rid of them? Wouldn't that help solve the problem?

1. Why are you so sensitive? There are so many other issues you could be worrying about right now!
I swear, some people just go looking for problems and I think they like being the word police/PC arbiters/busybodies.

3. You got me!
I was about to check your profile and then jump all over you, until I saw your :sarcasm: thingy.

I guess I could go on a rant about how insurance just doesn't pay for enough of my Viagra prescription? Wouldn't that be a hoot.

5. Sorry to give you a scare! I know what you mean, though.
I don't know what it is about the right to be a misogynist that brings out the ick in so many self-identified Democratic, fair-minded, or progressive men.

2. Threads about breast feeding always draw a chorus of weirdos
Of course, that doesn't mean that the threads should be preemptively locked, but the weirdos will come out and they'll need to be handled.

Not to mention the threads on sexism. The misogynists, who cannot deal, come out of the woodwork to fight for their right (to hate) when there's wimin folk talking.

Um, I believe that the accepted spelling is "wimmin."

4. What do I know about spelling?
After all, I'm only a wimin, wimmin, girl.

'Of course, that doesn't mean that the threads should be preemptively locked, but the weirdos will come out and they'll need to be handled.'

Yes, handle them by getting rid of them. It's always the same guys. It's not like it would be difficult to figure out who.

6. Breast feeding, going to the bathroom, talking
on the cell phone, there are just some things that should be done in private. I don't think it's sexism or misnogi, misygno, hating women or anything like that.
It's like there are some people who think it's ok to urinate in public, any time any place, if you 'haff ta' go.
It's against the law.
A guy asked me, 'what's the fine for u. in public'. I don't know, sez I. Maybe $250, should be $250, I guess. No! he says. $800! He knows, he paid it. I hope you learned your lesson, sez I.
Believe me there are far too many men who would like to do far too much in public. So I guess some things are just beyond question.

7. This is what the original poster is talking about
Breast feeding is considered to be some sort of elimination activity.

Do you eat a lot of your meals in the bathroom?

12. A different perspective
When she was 8 months old, we traveled to the Soviet Union. She started crying in the airport while we were waiting for customs. One of the airport workers asked what was wrong. She was hungry; I wasn't using bottles, and there wasn't a good way to nurse her while standing on line with my luggage. We were pulled out of line and the Diplomat's Gate was opened. We were cheerfully waved through, bypassing the hour long wait, and directed to a bench where I could sit and nurse her. Not a toilet, not a dark room hidden away from the rest of the world, but a bench, located where all the folks coming through regular customs were streaming past me.

In the United States, we kick women off planes for breastfeeding.

Later during that same trip, we were seated in a restaurant where a wedding reception was taking place. People don't react well here in the states if someone sits down next to them with a baby. Even if the child is well-behaved, they will glare at you as soon as you enter to let you know that responsible people keep their children at home, out of sight. ...

Our frame of reference in this country is so narrow that it's hard to talk about raising children in any meaningful way. When we discuss breastfeeding in airports, the debate focuses on whether other travelers should have to tolerate hungry babies being fed in public, or whether that sort of activity should be done in a bathroom. We cannot even conceive of shifting the debate to whether or not nursing women should be treated as diplomats.

13. I really hope you're joking
or maybe you're just on the wrong damn website - maybe you meant FR. . .

Seriously, what's the matter with you?

Breastfeeding is NOTHING akin to urinating or anything else. One is FEEDING A CHILD. FEEDING A BABY IS NOT A SEXUAL ACT. The breast, in that context, is NOT a sex organ and not a sex "object".

I suppose you think it's icky to have a baby's diapers changed where you can "see" their privates, too, eh? Afraid you'll get turned on, or what?

You know what all of this means, don't you? That YOU have some serious issues with your and other's sexuality. Maybe it's time to do a little reflective thinking. Or therapy.
