Saturn Moon May Have Ice Volcanoes
Report: By ALICIA CHANG, AP Science Writer
Fri Jul 29, 9:00 PM ET

LOS ANGELES - Saturn's tiny moon Enceladus, long thought to be cold and still, appears to have active ice volcanoes, scientists reported Friday.

A recent flyby of the international Cassini spacecraft found evidence of a huge cloud of water vapor over the moon's south pole and dramatic warm zones of heat leaking out of the icy moon.

If confirmed, the discovery would put Enceladus in the class of geologically active moons with Jupiter's Io and Neptune's Triton.

"This is as astonishing as if we'd flown past Earth and found that Antarctica was warmer than the Sahara," team member John Spencer said in a statement.

The July 14 flyby, in which Cassini flew within 110 miles of Enceladus, confirmed that the moon possessed a significant atmosphere, possibly created by volcanism, geysers or gases escaping from the surface or the interior. The planet-sized Titan is the only other Saturn moon known to have a thick atmosphere

1. Geological activity indicates subterranean biological activity.
This concept is actually very obvious once you examine all the existing evidence.

4. You just need to post more.
You'll be able to start your own threads eventually. I don't know the exact number, but it's not that awfully high.

Anyways, welcome to DU! :)

Oh, and someone posted the other night about that new, possibly-larger-than-Pluto object out there. Great stuff!

7. Yes, I agree. It is obvious that there are Thetans living in the volcano

Damn, that Xenu is a sneaky bastard!

Xenu
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenu

n Scientology doctrine, Xenu is a galactic ruler who, 75 million years ago, brought billions of people to Earth, stacked them around volcanoes and blew them up with hydrogen bombs. Their souls then clustered together and stuck to the bodies of the living, and continue to cause people problems today. These events are known to Scientologists as "Incident II," and the traumatic memories associated with them as The Wall of Fire or the R6 implant. The story of Xenu is part of a much wider range of Scientology beliefs in extraterrestrial civilizations and alien interventions in Earthly events, collectively described as space opera by L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology.

8. Source?
Please post some of this "existing evidence" so that we can grasp your concept, which right now appears to be obvious only to you.

9. Enceladus also has a very curious "wall" running around it
Look at some of the pictures of Enceladus and you can't miss it. It also appears that the two hemispheres of Enceladus aren't quite full hemispheres -- it would be interesting to check whether this is an optical illusion or not.

The "wall" isn't completely circumferential (I think it runs about half the circumference of Enceladus) but it is long and very, very strange.

Some people argue that it's a real wall, but I remain unconvinced. On the other hand, I do think it's one of the most amazing anomalies -- and a natural one at that -- that I've seen in a space picture.

--p!
And if it's an alien spite fence -- maybe they have the right idea :)
