Top Ten Surreal Scientific Breakthroughs of 2009


Telepathy helmets, spray-on solar cells and seeing through a tooth: they may seem unlikely or even impossible, but these are real recent scientific discoveries. It may sound like the most unlikely of science fiction, but these things are actually possible thanks to the many astounding discoveries made in the past year or so.

4. We can call bullshit on the "Star Trek" teleportation idea immediately: when the
quantum-entanglement people talk about "teleportation" that's not really what they mean. And confusion on this point is enduring: five or ten years ago, a major company (IIRC IBM?) got egg on its face when some PR guy launched an ad campaign claiming the company was about to bring teleportation to the masses -- based on his misunderstanding of similar research being done by company scientists
