This was cool. At least there are two places with intelligent life in Oklahoma and one of them is the Aggie school. We even bought orange shirts.

Me and husbo (1969 grad of Oklahoma State) drove from E. Tx up to Stillwater to hear him give a talk at an alumni fundraiser for the library.

Really neat. Bought his books (death by black hole and Pluto Files) and got them signed.

He covers a lot of the same stuff as Sagan but with his own cool slant on it.

I like the video where he explains Auto tune. (I personally think it's evil, but then I am a musical purist).

3. I used a variation of an auto-tune once.
While preparing a multi-track accompaniment for a solo piece I was working on, I found that I had forgotten to record one of the various samples I needed. I didn't have time to go back and re-record and even if I had, the space was booked solid, so I just copied a similar sample and changed a couple of notes.

4. I dig Nova Science Now.

Thanks for posting that!

I don't like groups that use auto tune either except in one case. The group is called Black Moth Super Rainbow and I like several of their songs. They use the effect not to mask the singers voice as much as change it into something completely different.
Here's an example:

5. I see him as doing some type of remake of Cosmos
Given the current factual cable channels it may seem overlap, but those channels are somewhat isolated without the broad appeal of Cosmos (at least it fired up a generation of scientists and engineers when I was a kid - a kind of a 2nd shot for those teenagers who missed the height of the moon program). Capturing the kids that would rather watch MTV, American Idol etc would be the goal in my opinion.

He is a wonderful speaker. Also we have learned a lot more since Cosmos.
