2. we are the most significant beings on our planet
at this moment. we are not the most significant beings in our civilization because we do not affect global policy. our masters do that for us.

4. I meant humans generally.
I was implying that we are import to us because we are us. The pictorial representation you cite makes global policy look pretty unimportant.

I think this planet belongs to bacteria and always has.

7. We are kidding ourselves..
We are kidding ourselves if we think, at this point, that we have any clue what our importance is, or even if there is such a thing as 'importance' in the first place.

Our recorded history of civiliation is an eye blink of the universe. Our species lifespan isn't much greater. We know nothing. Our planet, as vast as it seems to us, is the barest dust speck. And like a dust speck, it can be annihilated without the rest of the universe ever knowing. And, on the universal time scale, this can happen at any moment.

As long as we only exist on this one world, we are vulnerable. If we can move beyond it, if we can find other worlds where we can survive, or survive in space itself, we might achieve a vestige of importance over time. But, as long as we stay here, we are doomed to obscurity.
