Underwater city could be revealed (BBC) {medieval Dunwich}
Britain's own underwater "Atlantis" could be revealed for the first time with hi-tech underwater cameras.

Marine archaeologist Stuart Bacon and Professor David Sear, of the University of Southampton, will explore the lost city of Dunwich, off the Suffolk coast.

Dunwich gradually disappeared into the sea because of coastal erosion.

"It's about the application of new technology to investigate Britain's Atlantis, then to give this information to the public," Professor Sear said.

Mr Bacon, director of the Suffolk Underwater Studies, first located the debris of the lost city in the 1970s.

Too many people slam him for his depiction of black and middle eastern characters, which is utterly unfair considering the time in which he lived.

8. The man was a racist even to Southern Europeans...exceptionally so for his time period
not to mention anti-Catholic, misogynistic, and somewhat anti-Semitic as well...gotta call a spade a spade...the man was both a genius and a racist MFer...even for his time. Just as Robert E Howard was unapologetic for Conan's violent and male-dominated world...so is Lovecraft.

This is coming from a person of Southern European descent who adores the man's work. Despite taking some insult to the words in it "Haunter of the Dark" remains a favorite...

9. But to take offense to it is anachronistic.
Hell, even Notes on the State of Virginia contains some writing that we would consider offensive if written today.

Supposedly, his ex-wife Sonia Greene would often confront him about these things and he would get incredibly angry at her. He was a little more than the day called for sad to say...

Offense can be taken on many levels. I don't think Lovecraft tilts my personal scale in any extreme direction.

12. Actually I made an error
He would get angry around mixed crowds but his exwife would have to continually remind him that she was of Jewish descent when he made anti-Semetic comments.

He was a strange dude...died relatively young too...

3. My first thought, too. What horrors might they find?
I have to wonder if Lovecraft had this city in mind, and merely transported it to New England from Old.
