Wow. A science forum with nary a discussion of....
.... the acceptance of the proof of the Poincare Conjecture.

Great.

1. Don't come to my house
Havocdad has been going on about it (and adding his own brand of corollaries) for two days.

My head hurts.

3. Sure, you can laugh.
You haven't dealt with how he ties it all in with spinning tassels.

Told him to back off on the vitamins and switch to decaf.

6. So that clinches it for all dimensions {1,2,3,4 ... oo}
I heard a discussion of it on NPR the other week. They were discussing it in terms of the question "can an inhabitant of a manifold determine the topology of that manifold from the inside?" But reading the description of the Poincare' conjecture, it doesn't seem general enough to answer that question. It only relates to spheres of n dimension, not other topolgies, such as toroids, etc. And if the conjecture had already been solved for n>=4, the cosmologists ought to have been satisfied since the 80s.
