"Liberals just can't stand to think that anybody is worse than President Bush. They refuse to believe it. Bush is their enemy, and any enemy of Bush (and America) gets their support. They're idiots. They're traitors. Call them anything you'd like, but with the new Military Commissions Act, hopefully we can soon call them forgotten."

as well as a traitor to democracy for supporting Bush throwing our Freedoms away. They also gave Saddam an easy way out... Saddam being in prison for the rest of his life would have made the man suffer more. Freepers are seriosuly stupid people.

Why if he weren't a coward he'd be in uniform now fighting in Iraq.

2. Fools. I'd like to go post a reply thanking them and Bush for all the
extra exec powers - they'll come in handy after '08 when those powers get transferred to a Dem. Who's the idiot? Only a fool would support such a power grab by either side.

3. Wow, the first two steps in how to start an oppressive and brutal totalitarian regime contained in….
...one freeper post.

1.) Dehumanize the opposition and your other targets (liberals, intellectuals, Jews, etc).
2.) Round them up.

Der Fuhrer would be proud of his offspring.

10. Hypocrisy
Edited on Tue Jan-02-07 12:17 PM by wickedcity
...you're telling me democrats don't dehumanize the opposition?

Listen, in order to take back the Country we have to establish ourselves as a legitimate and credible party. We have to be better than them, and people have to know it. We have to take the high ground. People on this forum are completely ridiculous and it shows. Democrats will search for and believe even the most moronic and outlandish conspiracy theories as long as those theories paint the opposition as evil. I remember back when Katrina hit and a few members of this forum actually argued that Bush was responsible for the Hurricane itself. We have people claiming that the executioners overseeing Saddam's execution look "suspiciously" like the guards at Nick Bergs murder (the masks might have something to do with that)

If I may use a quote from this forum..."5. Any day a repuke dies (or is buried) is a good day to celebrate."

Screaming "nazi" at literally every opportunity, and claiming government conspiracy ever two seconds is not helping us. People on this forum are acting like morons and you're making the party look moronic. I have never ever seen bigotry like I've seen on forums like this. You can't insist that all rightists are evil, racist, sexist, fascist, Bushbots and then claim the moral high ground. Republicans are in power now because instead of forming a legitimate party platform and engaging them in actually debate to show the country just how moronic these people are, we're carrying "Anybody but Bush" signs and ranting about poorly thought out government conspiracies orchestrated by the Republican Nazi Regime. At this rate, we're due to lose in '08 as well.

Sorry, I had to get this rant off my chest.

8. Guess we should thank him for reminding us
that even though we believe Bush to be the worst ever, there are still some people in America who would gladly vote for even worse Fascists than Bush--and indeed, there are some who would welcome the abandonment of democracy altogether.

11. Democracy
America is not a Democracy. It's not a Democracy for a reason.
Democracy is the totalitarian rule of the majority, it puts the right of any and every minority at the mercy of the majority.

"America is not a Democracy."

First up:

http://www.angelfire.com/pa/sergeman/cliches/democracy.html

Such sterling sources! LewRockwell.com, WorldNetDaily, Capitalism Magazine ...

Second up, and my personal favourite so far:

http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/L-democracy.htm
Myth: The U.S. is not a democracy.

Fact: The U.S. is a representative democracy in every branch of government.

Summary

The U.S. is a democracy -- just not a direct one. Every branch of our government -- executive, legislative, judicial, monetary -- ultimately derives its power from majority rule or approval. By making our democracy indirect instead of direct, the Founders prevented unrestrained mob rule, allowing a more reasonable pace of majority rule, and greater room for compromise.

Argument

Conservatives continually point out that America is not a democracy, but a constitutional republic. This is a quibble over definitions, because a constitutional republic is a type of democracy. Democracy comes in two forms: direct and republican. In a direct democracy, the people vote directly on proposed laws, and government (to the extent that it exists) serves only to put their laws into action. By contrast, a republic is a representative democracy, where laws are passed not by the people, but their elected representatives. Adding the term "constitutional" to the word "republic" is frivolous, since all nations have constitutions.

Why, then, do conservatives insist on this distinction? There are two reasons, both of them trivial. One is to embarrass those who make casual use of the term "democracy." Another is that conservatives are so hostile to democracy that they seek to deny its very name. ...

Some people might also want to note some of the developments in political thought since the days of the ancient Greeks ... or the ancient 'Murricans. Things like liberal democracy (that being the variety that specifically addresses minority rights), and maybe even social democracy (where rights themselves are expanded to mean more than non-interference). Funny how time marches on, isn't it?

13. Ooo...
Calling me a Republican now? I thought there were a wide variety of opinions within the Democratic party...I guess not.
The word Democracy, is popular usage, is mob rule. When the government uses it, when the media uses it, when the average person uses it...it's usually in the context of someone's rights being up for vote. The founding fathers established a "republican" (small "R") form of government because they realized that the rights of the minority are afforded no protections under majority rule. That's why we have a Bill of Rights, so that the minority is afford some degree of protection from the hysteria and bigotry of the many. It not at all unreasonable to consider them two separate ideologies.

Every time someone attempts to pass a new gun control law, they cry democracy and claim that the majority supports it.
Every time someone tries to ban gay marriage, it's put up for vote and the majority decides whether or not to recognize the rights of the minority.

This is the context in which America understands "Democracy", and that's not what we are.
