Gay Flap Gives Spellings Boost

(Washington) Education Secretary Margaret Spellings' stock is rising among conservatives - mainly the result of her attack on a cartoon about a rabbit that featured a gay family.

In January, on her second day as Education Secretary and Spellings launched an attack on the PBS series “Postcards From Buster” which featured an episode that had a lesbian family as part of a sub plot.

Spellings heard from 197,610 people, according to USA Today with 81% supporting her position.

Most of the responses, 157,537, came from supporters of the conservative group American Family Association. Supporters of the LGBT organization Human Rights Campaign sent 36,233 responses the paper reports.

It is amazing how the fundies are attacking cartoon characters now! I wish I had wrote a personal letter so I could ask her how she planned on addressing the needs of children from GLBT families and how she plans on stopping the hatred directed at them. Unfortunately once I sent in the file form I couldn't go back and send another one.

So if someone feels so inclined.....

I am voting for this page so it gets the attention it needs. We need two more!
