Tapes: Enron plotted to shut down power plant
Move came day that rolling blackouts hit California, utility says
Thursday, February 3, 2005 Posted: 11:28 PM EST (0428 GMT)

(CNN) -- A Washington state utility released audiotapes Thursday that it said revealed bankrupt energy trader Enron Corp. plotted to take a power plant off-line in 2001 to jack up electric prices in Western states.

That same day, shortages of power forced rolling blackouts in northern California that affected about 2 million customers.

Snohomish Public Utility District in Everett, Washington, released the tapes as part of its effort to void a $122 million lawsuit Enron has filed against it seeking payment for electricity it was contracted to provide.<snip>

2. And everyday at that time
limbaugh would blather on about Grey Davis and how his economic policies were hurting the state and causing such blackouts. Maybe I'll tune in today to hear the retraction and apology.

3. Those rat bastards ought to be hung! I live in No. Cal. and I knew

5. I wonder if anyone died because of the "rolling blackouts"
Think about it, traffic signals, homes, hospitals, factories, police stations, fire houses, nursing homes...

It seems likely that *someone* must have been either seriously injured or even killed as a consequence of the unexpected loss of power.

If my mom or dad, or wife, or kid had been killed so some weasel could have a just slightly more obscene profit margin... I don't know whether I'd live the rest of my life for the purpose of seeing them in jail for homicide, or whether I'd be the one in prison...

6. Excellent Question
Maybe some "journalist" in California will pick up on your message and run with it. I'd be very surprised if someone did not suffer in the melee. Of course, no conservative would be responsible for anything that may have occurred.

7. one of the tapes played on the local news this am
was two traders joking about a car crash that happened during a rolling blackout. IIRC that was a very seriuos accident, but I haven't been able to confirm fatalities.
