California offers new lethal injection procedures

1 hour, 45 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - The state of California has proposed new lethal
injection procedures for condemned inmates in a bid to address objections
raised by a federal judge who suspended executions in December.

"The revisions to California's Lethal Injection Protocol will result in the
dignified end of life for the condemned inmate," the state government said
in a report Tuesday to Judge Jeremy Fogel.

Citing a lack of trained staff, inadequate facilities, poor record keeping and
other problems, the judge said the protocol represented "undue and
unnecessary risk" resulting in pain so extreme as to be unconstitutional.

In its report, the state administration under Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
said it would ensure better trained staff would oversee executions and
planned to build a new death chamber to replace the old facility originally
built as a gas chamber in 1938.

1. Oh joy and
how humane and progressive. . .?

. . .not.

Our judicial and penal systems are so terribly broken.

Ughhh.

2. Lipstick on a pig?

in a report Tuesday to Judge Jeremy Fogel."

No amount of lipstick on that pig will make it dignified.

3. If making it humane is the issue
Why not just give the condemned a face mask with a nitrous oxide pack mixed with regular air, just like at the dentists office. then start cutting off the air slowly so he just goes to sleep then dies.

Problem is, making an ugly thing pretty means that it will be used more.
