TYC To Restrict Info About Abuse Allegations
(AP) A new review of confidentiality laws will further restrict what the Texas Youth Commission releases on allegations of sexual or physical abuse by staffers.

TYC spokesman Jim Hurley says information previously released to the public and media will no longer be available.

Attorneys with the TYC and the Attorney General's office have determined it would be against the law to do so.

The agency that runs the juvenile prison system has been at the center of a scandal over allegations of sexual and physical abuse of some children.

A report this week by a special investigator led to more than 50 recommendations for restoring the agency's credibility.

Much of the information that led to reforms was made public through open-records requests filed by the media.

Texas House Corrections chairman Jerry Madden told the Houston Chronicle that making detailed information available to the public is key to restoring trust in the TYC.

How outrageous is that?
