Interesting exchange on the Health Care Blog
Scroll down to the exchange between "Nate" and Matthew Holt. Nate sounds like an asshole, but he comes off sounding pretty informed. A lot of this stuff is above my head, but does anyone know if he's full of shit?

1. Nate sounds like an industry tool.
And that's putting it kindly.

2. Claiming expertese in a subject and deminishing their opponent is a common GOP forum trick.
The NRA gun lobby does it all the time.

3. Actually, I've experienced my share of DUers trying the same routine.
Its use has nothing to do with where one stands on the political spectrum, IMO.

4. I don't see it here on the DU as much as you do. I see it whenever I venture out
to the mixed boards (which is rarely).

5. Oh, I think it happens everywhere, and more and more so online.

6. I still say the right wing bloggers use the idea of them having expertese
to try and undo somebody's argument more often than people on the left do it. Just try and post an op calling for gun control in he gungeon. Hords of experts will automatically appear and ask if you know the details about certain guns as part of their argument. I really do not see it used by those on the left as a technique. I really don't.
