Natural-based deodorants/antiperspirants
I am looking for an effective product.
Currently I am using this:

It's doing an OK job but are there any that do more than just tone down odor for part of the day?

Not that stink all that much...

Natural salt crystals
You can get one at any natural food store. Salt crystals have been used since ancient times. I guess the salt inhibits bacteria growth that causes odor.

1. Best one I've used is just a giant salt crystal.
no scent, but effective as both a deodorant and antipersperant. They come branded at the store, but I forgot the name.

8. +1
those do work well. although they didn't used to have to label what was in them, so i stopped using them. but they worked great.

11. I always
wondered if they worked. I'm pretty much a Secret girl, have been since I was 13, and I'm afraid to try something else.

Do they work for gym related sweating? Maybe I'll try one to check it out now that winter is coming and I sweat less.

2. Anti-perspirants are bad for you. You are supposed to sweat. Deodorants on the other hand
are mostly just alcohol, effective and safe.

4. Anti-perspirtants aren't "bad" for anyone.
Unless you're allergic to an ingredient. A common misconception in the alt-med circles, sweat does not release toxins, and even if it did, you have sweat glands all over your body that wouldn't be affected by anti-perspirant under your arms anyway.

7. Yeah...and anyone who claims in this thread that antiperspirants cause breast cancer
is going to be alerted, because that's a pile of crap.

10. OMG
but I saw it in an email once! It must be true!

(Kidding. I mean, I did see it in an email once, but I didn't really believe it!)

12. Perspiration is your body's mechanism for cooling itself.
And no, it is not healthy to obstruct one of your body's natural functions.

(Release toxins? Where did I say this?)

13. And the area under the arms makes up exactly what percent of our skin's total surface area?
Maybe 2%?

Can you explain how reducing the output of 2% of our sweat glands is unhealthy?

(Release toxins? Where did I say this?)

Well actually, you didn't say ANYTHING specific, so all I could do is speculate. Please answer my question above so we can proceed on what you think the harm is from antiperspirants.

3. I don't know if you can get it where you live...
since it's a European product, but Fa deodorant is supposedly very good. A Polish friend of ours asked us to bring some back when we went to Europe, and my wife tried it and likes it too.

5. I have tried everything
The very BEST is a mix of baby powder and baking soda. I use about a third baking soda, two thirds baby powder and it works even on the hottest of days :toast:

9. Baby powder may not be good for you.
Talcum powder may not be good for the lungs. Baking soda and corn starch works. Even a small pinch of baking soda mixed in a little water works.

The salt sticks are great.

I'm not sure why but using unscented soap seems to help.

6. My brother uses colloidal silver -
it apparently kills the bacteria on the skin and hair that causes the odor in the first place. Seems to work for him, but it's definitely not an antiperspirant.

And it hasn't turned him blue, in case you were wondering (although my aunt takes the stuff - too much, too often - and she's pretty much a Smurf these days . . .)

14. Dr Houschka's has a wonderful deodorant
It is the first one I have ever used that worked and it has a smell that I love. I don't use perfume, so this is as close as I get to it, though, the smell seems so nice to me. It is simply a deodorant.

It is pricey, but hey, it works.

15. I also use the crystal. Can't use other deodorants and anti-perspirants...
because they cause ulcers under my arms.
