Switzerland restricts use of GlaxoSmithKline swine flu vaccine
http://www.physorg.com/news176099207.html

The regulatory authority Swissmedic said it had received data on the vaccine for adults, but not for pregnant women and very little data for children.

"For this reason, Swissmedic has not yet authorised the administration of Pandemrix to pregnant women, children under the age of 18 and adults over 60," the regulator said in a statement.

..................................

While the Swiss regulator did not give the green light for the usage of Pandemrix by vulnerable groups, it said Focetria, a vaccine produced by Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis, was safe to be used by both children and adults.

.....................

The regulator added that it was still examining a second Novartis vaccine, Celtura.

Citing anonymous sources, Swiss daily Tages Anzeiger had reported on Saturday that Celtura had problems gaining regulatory approval here due to possible bacterial contamination.

1. That's really too bad
because women are ultra high risk in the last trimester of pregnancy.

I think the decision of whether or not to risk the vaccine should be up to the woman, herself.

4. If it's really this serious,
pregnant women should really not be flying on airplanes.

5. You do what you have to do.
After all, nobody really flies for fun any more, not with the massive hazing they have to go through in the airport.

However, if they're going to fly anywhere, they need the vaccine. This flu is a killer, especially for pregnant women in the last trimester.

6. Hmm.. the article pretty clearly states that other H1N1 vaccines are available.
So I am missing how not approving this particular vaccine is denying anyone access to vaccination against H1N1.

7. The H1N1 vaccine is really no different than the seasonal one.
Same technique, technology, production methods. Just uses H1N1 virus bits instead of others.

So someone has misinformed you to think H1N1 is a "new" vaccine.
