You bet.
In the end, I think that's what it's going to have to come down to: a popular revolt, because we've seen what happened in 1994:
The Republicans steamrolled the issue and we Democrats didn't stand up to them.
Call me nuts, but I've long thought that what is going to have to happen is everyone refusing to pay outlandish medical bills, insurance premiums, etc. The non-system would collapse and something entirely new could be built in its place, which is what needs to happen.
That is one area where I differ significantly from President Obama: he wants to build on the existing system. I say that to do that is akin to the biblical account of the wise man building his house on the rock and the foolish man building his house on the sand.
There IS NO health care "system" in this country. A quick-and-dirty definition of a system is parts working together to form a coherent whole. Anyone thinking that describes the U.S. health care situation...well, I have waterfront property in the Sahara you may be interested in.
Nonetheless, credit where it's due. Mr Obama is doing a hell of a lot more than any Republican likely would do. Remember, John McCain wanted to stop counting the number of uninsured...because they can all get care at the local ER.
