If Obama were to establish an affordable public health insurance system
One that competed with the current private industry, how many of you would
participate in it? What would it have to offer in order to make you potentially
switch.

1. insurance needs to GO.
Insurance is a cancer in our health care system. Insurances need to be cut out entirely.

2. it would have to be around 200-250 a month
Because the one I have now is around 385 a month but it covers everything except a co-pay of 15 bucks.

9. Just wait until you have to file a claim
It won't be such a bargain when they say it was a preexisting condition or that you lied on your application etc.

4. There's no need for him to do so. It already exists: Medicare. Expand it to cover everyone.

13. The idea is an improved and expanded Medicare system
The idea that single payer advocates are advocating is for an improved and expanded Medicare system not the system we have now. It would eliminate co-pays. Educate yourself. Read about the proposal of the PHNP here: http://www.pnhp.org/publications/proposal_of_the_physicians_working_group_for_singlepayer_national_health_insurance

11. Medicare is far from ideal. I know, I have it.
For one thing, Medicare part D really stinks.

7. I would use it.
As long as it was not administered by some private contractor.
And they couldn't play the same games and deny claims. They have to actually be there when you need it.
I don't trust private health insurance companies.

12. if my husband left his job to contract
well, he just couldn't and hasn't done that because it has not been there before. he could make 4-5 times what he makes now if he didn't have a family that is are almost all heavy users of health care. many other techies are in the same boat.
